New 2027 Range Rover Sport Electric: 378 Miles of Range
The Range Rover Sport is officially entering the fully electric era, and Range Rover has made it clear that electrification is not supposed to take away the performance character that made the Sport different from the rest of the lineup.
The new Range Rover Sport Electric uses 2 260-kilowatt electric motors producing up to 550 horsepower and 850 Newton meters of torque. That is the highest torque output of any Range Rover Sport to date. Engage Dynamic Launch Mode and the electric sport utility vehicle can accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour in as little as 4.3 seconds.
Range Rover has done more than simply install a large battery and powerful motors. The electric model has a body structure that is 61 percent stiffer than the Range Rover Sport plug-in hybrid, while its center of gravity sits 73 millimeters lower. Torque response is also 50 percent faster than in the Range Rover Electric.
A collection of chassis technologies works to make the vehicle feel smaller and more responsive from behind the wheel. These include Adaptive Dynamics, Twin Valve Dampers, Dynamic Air Suspension, Electronic Active Roll Control, All-Wheel Steering, and an advanced virtual all-wheel-drive system.
Energy comes from a 118.5-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery. Range Rover estimates up to 378 miles of Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicles Test Procedure driving range, along with a real-world estimate of up to 333 miles. Its 800-volt electrical architecture also allows rapid charging, with as much as 136 miles of range added in around 10 minutes. Charging from 10 to 80 percent can take approximately 22 minutes when the vehicle is charging at its maximum rate.
Despite going electric, Range Rover has not abandoned the Sport’s off-road abilities. The vehicle can wade through water as deep as 900 millimeters and tackle inclines reaching 45 degrees. Range Rover demonstrated those capabilities during final testing in the Carrara marble quarries in Italy, where the electric Sport faced steep gradients, polished marble, fine marble dust, and demanding terrain.
There are also subtle visual differences separating the electric model from other Range Rover Sport versions, including an aerodynamically optimized grille and specially designed alloy wheels. Range Rover says these aerodynamic improvements can contribute as much as 10 additional miles of driving range at motorway speeds.
The Range Rover Sport Electric is available in Dynamic SE, Dynamic HSE, Autobiography, and First Edition specifications. Order books are now open, marking the first time buyers can get the Range Rover Sport with a fully electric powertrain.
