NEW 2027 Ram Power Wagon Gets Cummins Diesel for the First Time

NEW 2027 Ram Power Wagon Gets Cummins Diesel for the First Time

The Ram Heavy Duty lineup is getting some meaningful upgrades for the new model year, and one of the biggest headlines is the arrival of the legendary 6.7-liter Cummins High-Output turbo diesel engine in the Ram 2500 Power Wagon for the first time. That gives buyers a choice between the proven 6.4-liter HEMI V8 and the torque-rich Cummins engine, making the iconic off-road truck even more versatile than before.

The new Power Wagon is not the only truck receiving attention. Ram has also introduced the 2500 Emergency Response Vehicle, the brand’s first pursuit-capable 3/4-ton pickup created specifically for fleet customers. It expands the Heavy Duty lineup into a new segment while offering the strength and durability expected from a Ram truck.

Capability has also taken a noticeable step forward. A new Payload Upgrade Package available on most Ram 2500 models equipped with the 6.4-liter HEMI V8 increases the gross vehicle weight rating to 11,040 pounds and boosts maximum payload to an impressive 4,580 pounds. The package includes a stronger Ram 3500 frame, upgraded leaf springs, and an anti-spin rear differential, giving owners more confidence when hauling heavy cargo.

Ram has also increased the capability of select Ram 3500 models powered by the HEMI V8. Those trucks now offer a maximum gross vehicle weight rating of 11,440 pounds, increasing payload capacity over the previous model year while providing more flexibility for commercial and recreational customers.

Performance remains impressive across the lineup. The 6.4-liter HEMI V8 delivers 410 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque, while the 6.7-liter Cummins High-Output turbo diesel produces 430 horsepower and an incredible 1,075 pound-feet of torque. Both engines are paired with advanced 8-speed automatic transmissions designed to improve towing performance, durability, and everyday drivability.

When properly equipped, the Ram 3500 continues to set the standard with a maximum towing capacity of up to 37,020 pounds. The Ram 2500 also delivers serious capability, offering up to 20,000 pounds of towing with the Cummins engine or up to 17,740 pounds with the HEMI V8.

Ram also focused on giving buyers more customization options. A sport performance hood is now available on more trims, the Warn electric winch can be ordered without purchasing additional equipment packages, and several standalone options make it easier to build the truck buyers actually want. New exterior colors, including Serrano Green Metallic and Tank Clear-Coat, add fresh personality to the lineup.

Technology remains one of the strongest selling points. Available features include a massive 14.5-inch Uconnect 5 touchscreen, a 10.25-inch passenger display, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, dual wireless phone charging, advanced trailer towing technology, and the innovative RamBox cargo management system.

Whether buyers need a serious work truck, an off-road adventure machine, or a heavy-duty towing champion, the updated Ram 2500 and Ram 3500 lineup offers more capability, more technology, and more flexibility than ever before.
