New 2027 Lexus NX Interior Has a Feature You Won’t Expect

New 2027 Lexus NX Interior Has a Feature You Won’t Expect

Lexus is preparing a major update for the 2027 Lexus NX, and this time the changes go much deeper than a typical styling refresh. The compact luxury crossover is moving entirely toward electrified power, while also receiving improvements to its chassis, technology, interior experience, and overall driving character. Lexus appears to be using the new NX as an opportunity to show how its future luxury vehicles can combine efficiency with a more engaging personality.

One of the biggest changes is the decision to eliminate traditional gasoline-only powertrains. For 2027, the Lexus NX lineup will consist exclusively of hybrid electric and plug-in hybrid electric models. Buyers will be able to choose from Premium, Premium Plus, F Sport, and Luxury grades.

Depending on the configuration, hybrid models will be available with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Higher-level versions, including F Sport and Luxury models, will come with all-wheel drive, while the plug-in hybrid electric models will also feature all-wheel drive as standard equipment.

The changes underneath the body are arguably even more important. Lexus has developed a more compact and lightweight electric axle that combines several important components into a single assembly. The transaxle, electric motor, and power control unit are integrated together, helping reduce packaging requirements while improving efficiency.

The inverter also uses silicon carbide power semiconductors. This technology can improve the efficiency of the electrical system and help reduce energy losses, an increasingly important advantage as Lexus continues expanding its electrified vehicle lineup.

The NX 450h+ plug-in hybrid receives additional improvements. Its revised lithium-ion battery provides an 8% increase in both power output and capacity. Lexus has also changed the battery cell arrangement, using a transverse layout that helps lower the vehicle’s center of gravity while contributing to greater floor rigidity.

Charging becomes more convenient as well. Direct current fast charging is included, giving owners another option when they need to replenish the battery more quickly. Lexus has also redesigned the charging port door to improve everyday usability.

The electric all-wheel-drive system has been revised too. New rear motor controls allow the system to maintain continuous all-wheel-drive operation, helping improve stability and giving the NX a more predictable response under changing driving conditions.

Lexus has spent considerable effort improving the way the 2027 NX feels from behind the wheel. Development work included testing at the Toyota Technical Center Shimoyama in Japan as well as Germany’s Nürburgring, two environments that can expose weaknesses in chassis balance, suspension tuning, and structural rigidity.

Structural improvements include a new floor crossmember and additional tunnel reinforcement. Increasing body rigidity can help the suspension operate more precisely while also reducing unwanted vibration and road noise. Lexus is targeting sharper handling without sacrificing the quiet, comfortable character expected from a luxury crossover.

Models without the available adaptive variable suspension system receive shock absorbers equipped with ultra-low-speed valves. These are designed to better control body movement over uneven pavement and help the NX remain more settled when encountering bumps.

Steering has also been reconsidered. The NX receives a smaller 14.2-inch steering wheel along with variable rack gearing. The combination is intended to provide a more direct feeling during cornering while remaining easy to manage during everyday driving.

Another addition is a cornering brake control system. During quick directional changes, the system can apply subtle braking inputs to help stabilize the vehicle and maintain a more controlled line.

The exterior follows the same philosophy of refinement rather than complete reinvention. The 2027 NX adopts a wider and lower visual appearance, supported by a redesigned mesh grille and darker exterior details. Black accent moldings replace some of the traditional chrome elements, giving the crossover a cleaner and more contemporary appearance.

At the front, dual-line daytime running lights create a distinctive new lighting signature. The rear introduces an especially noticeable detail with Lexus’ first double L signature taillight design. An illuminated Lexus logo positioned between the lights further emphasizes the vehicle’s width at night.

New exterior colors add another layer of personalization. Shaded Ivy joins the palette, while buyers choosing the F Sport can select an exclusive Incognito finish.

The F Sport receives several additional visual and performance-inspired touches. These include more aggressive front under spoilers, side pontoons, piano-black exterior accents, lightweight 20-inch aluminum wheels, and red brake calipers. Together, the changes give the F Sport a more purposeful appearance without dramatically changing the basic NX shape.

Inside, Lexus is introducing one of the vehicle’s most unusual features. Sensory Concierge is designed to coordinate several cabin systems simultaneously to change the atmosphere of the interior.

Available on Luxury and F Sport grades, the system can control ambient lighting, audio, climate settings, seat temperatures, and even fragrance. Drivers and passengers can select from 3 curated experiences called Inspire, Radiance, and Revitalize.

Lexus has also developed 3 fragrances for the system, named Shinme, Seyo, and Hana. Instead of treating lighting, sound, temperature, and scent as separate features, Sensory Concierge combines them into a single coordinated cabin experience.

Technology remains an important part of the redesigned interior. A 14-inch touchscreen is standard, accompanied by a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. An available Mark Levinson audio system adds another premium element, with perforated metal speaker grilles surrounded by illuminated lighting rings.

Taken together, the changes make the 2027 Lexus NX much more than a simple cosmetic update. Lexus is moving the crossover completely into the electrified era while simultaneously improving its chassis, steering, suspension, battery technology, cabin electronics, and exterior design.

The transition away from gasoline-only power is significant, but the broader story may be how Lexus is trying to make electrification feel like an upgrade rather than a compromise. With improved hybrid technology, an upgraded NX 450h+, a more rigid chassis, a sportier F Sport model, and the unusual Sensory Concierge interior, the 2027 NX could represent an important step in the evolution of Lexus’ compact luxury crossover.
