New 2027 Audi A2 e-tron Officially Revealed
Audi is bringing back one of its most unusual nameplates, but this time with a completely electric approach. Audi Chief Executive Officer Gernot Döllner has unveiled the 2027 Audi A2 e-tron in Paris, introducing a compact electric model designed around efficiency, practicality, and the realities of everyday driving in Europe.
The original Audi A2 built its reputation around lightweight construction, clever packaging, and low energy consumption. For the new generation, Audi is taking that same basic philosophy and adapting it for the electric era. Rather than chasing extreme power figures or making the vehicle larger than necessary, the A2 e-tron puts efficiency at the center of the experience.
The headline number is energy consumption of just 12.8 kilowatt hours per 100 kilometers. Audi says this makes the A2 e-tron the most efficient production vehicle the company has ever created. That efficiency also helps deliver a driving range of up to 646 kilometers under the Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicles Test Procedure.
Aerodynamics play an important role in achieving those numbers. The A2 e-tron has a drag coefficient of only 0.24, helping it move through the air with less resistance. For drivers, the benefits go beyond impressive figures on a specification sheet. Lower energy consumption can mean longer distances between charging stops and less time spent thinking about where the next charger is located.
Döllner used the Paris unveiling to emphasize that electric vehicles need to fit naturally into people’s lives if electric mobility is going to become more widely accepted across Europe. Audi’s approach with the A2 e-tron is therefore focused on making the vehicle straightforward and practical rather than asking customers to change their daily routines around the car.
That philosophy also reflects Audi’s evolving interpretation of what a premium vehicle should be. Instead of simply adding more power, size, weight, or equipment, the company believes premium mobility can also mean making smarter use of energy, technology, and available space while maintaining the quality customers expect from Audi.
Europe is clearly the primary focus. The A2 e-tron was developed specifically around European driving conditions and customer expectations. Development takes place in Germany, while production is planned for Audi’s Ingolstadt facility.
That European focus could make the A2 e-tron especially interesting in cities and densely populated areas, where exterior dimensions and efficiency can matter just as much as outright performance. At the same time, a claimed range of up to 646 kilometers gives the compact electric Audi the potential to handle much longer journeys without requiring frequent charging stops.
For Audi, the A2 e-tron is more than another electric vehicle joining the lineup. It represents a different direction for premium electric transportation, where efficiency becomes a major selling point rather than simply a technical achievement.
The return of the A2 name also carries significance. The original car was known for doing things differently, and Audi appears to be following a similar philosophy with its modern successor. This time, however, the challenge is electric mobility.
With 12.8 kilowatt hours per 100 kilometers of energy consumption, up to 646 kilometers of range, and a 0.24 drag coefficient, the 2027 Audi A2 e-tron is shaping up as one of Audi’s most efficiency focused electric vehicles yet. Instead of asking drivers to adjust their lifestyles around an electric car, Audi wants this compact model to make electric driving feel like the easier choice.
