New 2026 Mercedes S-Class Gets Star Headlights, Bigger Grille, and V8 Power

There are very few cars in the world where even the smallest design change matters, and the 2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class is one of them. This is the car that quietly sets the tone for the entire luxury sedan segment, and with this update, Mercedes-Benz is making it clear that evolution does not mean playing it safe.

From the front, the changes are impossible to miss. The S-Class now carries a completely reworked face, led by new headlights that feature star-shaped LED elements inside each housing. These lights visually connect to the grille through a dark frame, creating a wider and more technical look that immediately feels more modern. The grille itself has grown by about 20 percent, becoming taller, bolder, and more sculpted. Instead of the previous horizontal layout, it now uses four bars and relocates the radar system to the center, cleaning up the overall design. An illuminated outline around the grille, paired with a glowing Mercedes-Benz star on the hood, adds a dramatic presence, especially at night.

Look closer and you will notice more thoughtful updates. Additional cameras are now neatly integrated into the front fenders, supporting advanced driver assistance systems without disrupting the design. The side mirrors also receive a redesign, borrowing cues from newer electric-inspired models to improve aerodynamics and visual flow.

At the rear, the changes are more subtle but still meaningful. The taillights now display star-themed graphics on each side, reinforcing the brand identity while giving the car a fresh signature after dark. The rear bumper remains largely unchanged, allowing the lighting elements to do most of the visual work.

Mercedes-Benz says more than 50 percent of the vehicle has been reworked, accounting for roughly 2700 new components. Inside, that effort is expected to be just as noticeable. Spy images suggest a fully redesigned dashboard inspired by the latest E-Class, with a cleaner layout, larger displays, and an even stronger focus on digital luxury.

Despite the updates, the S-Class stays true to its roots under the hood. Gasoline engines remain, including an all-new V8 that Mercedes-Benz describes as the cleanest eight-cylinder engine it has ever produced. It is a reminder that refinement and performance can still coexist in a world moving rapidly toward electrification.

The full debut of the 2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class takes place on January 29. If this preview is any indication, this update is not about reinventing the S-Class, but about sharpening every detail that made it the benchmark in the first place.
