Mustang GTD vs Porsche 911 GT3 at Nürburgring – 6:52 Lap Time!

Mustang GTD vs Porsche 911 GT3 at Nürburgring – 6:52 Lap Time!

Ford is making history at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. The new Mustang GTD has officially become the fastest American production car on the iconic German track, posting a jaw-dropping lap time of 6:52.072. That is faster than some of the best European supercars, including a very specific Porsche.

Now here is where it gets even more interesting. Porsche’s 911 GT3, equipped with the Weissach Package and a traditional six-speed manual transmission, recently completed its lap in 6:56.294. That means the Mustang GTD beat the GT3 by over 4 seconds, and that is no small feat.

The Mustang GTD is not just about brute force. Yes, it does pack a massive 815 horsepower from a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine. But the engineering behind it goes beyond the engine. With a rear-mounted dual-clutch transaxle, inboard rear suspension, and track-focused aerodynamics, this car was built with a singular mission — to dominate on the circuit.

Porsche’s 911 GT3 is no slouch either. It makes 502 horsepower from a naturally aspirated flat-six engine and continues to be a benchmark for driver-focused performance, especially when paired with a manual gearbox. The Weissach Package adds carbon fiber components to shave off weight and improve handling, and it is the fastest manual-transmission production car ever tested on the Nordschleife.

But Ford’s effort with the GTD showcases a different kind of performance. It is raw, it is American, and it is meticulously engineered. Ford has clearly fine-tuned every inch of the GTD, from its ABS and traction control calibration to suspension stiffness and aerodynamic tweaks, all contributing to that record-setting lap.
