Mustang Dark Horse SC Convertible Is Nearly 800 HP
Ford is taking the Mustang Dark Horse SC in a new direction by removing the roof while keeping the serious performance underneath. The new Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC Convertible combines open-air driving with the same supercharged power found in the coupe, creating one of the most powerful convertible Mustangs Ford has ever offered.
Under the hood is a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine producing 795 horsepower and 660 pound-feet of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. Those numbers are identical to the Dark Horse SC coupe, so choosing the convertible does not mean giving up engine performance.
The biggest difference comes from how Ford tuned the chassis. Instead of developing the convertible primarily around maximum track performance and lap times, Ford Racing engineers focused on making it a fast and capable grand touring car. The suspension uses MagneRide dampers at all 4 corners along with springs and sway bars specifically selected for the convertible.
Ford based the Dark Horse SC Convertible on the Mustang GT Convertible platform, but additional reinforcement was necessary to handle the extra performance. A magnesium tower-to-tower brace helps increase structural rigidity, an important consideration when the fixed roof is removed.
Aerodynamics also required attention. Because airflow behaves differently around a soft-top Mustang, Ford modified several components rather than simply transferring everything from the coupe. Engineers extended the trailing edge of the hood vent fin, which closes off part of the vent opening.
At the rear, the convertible receives specially designed wing stanchions that work with its deck lid. The rear wing maintains the general profile and attack angle used on the coupe, although the convertible does without the coupe’s gurney flaps.
Ford is also giving buyers additional ways to personalize the car with new exterior colors, brake caliper choices, and interior details. One of the highlights is Precision Purple, a color-shifting finish that changes appearance depending on the lighting. It brings some of the visual personality associated with memorable Mustang Cobra colors such as Mystic and Mystichrome, but with a more modern look.
Pricing has not been announced yet. For comparison, the 2026 Mustang Dark Horse SC coupe starts at $108,085 including destination, which suggests the convertible will likely carry an even higher starting price.
Ford plans to open order books this fall, with the first Dark Horse SC Convertible deliveries expected to begin next spring. For Mustang fans who want nearly 800 horsepower without giving up top-down driving, this could become one of the most interesting additions to the current Mustang lineup.
