Mercedes VLE Debuts With 434 Mile Range And Luxury Interior
Mercedes Benz is preparing to launch a new electric luxury van called the VLE, and it represents a major shift in how the brand approaches premium family transport and executive mobility. While vehicles of this type are extremely popular in China as high end limousine style people movers, the interesting news is that Mercedes Benz also plans to bring a long wheelbase version of the VLE to the United States.
The new van rides on the company’s dedicated Van Architecture platform, which was designed specifically for next generation electric vans. The production model clearly carries inspiration from the Vision V concept shown in 2025. Many of the concept vehicle’s signature details remain intact, including the sleek greenhouse profile, sculpted hood with dual power domes, and a modern front fascia that immediately signals this is part of Mercedes Benz’s electric future.
Design details vary depending on trim level. Some versions will feature an illuminated grille and distinctive star shaped daytime running lights. A traditional standing Mercedes Benz star can also be found on the hood in certain configurations. At the rear, the van uses elegant arc shaped taillights that blend seamlessly into the spoiler, helping give the VLE a very clean and futuristic appearance. Mercedes Benz also focused heavily on efficiency, achieving a drag coefficient of just 0.25.
Two powertrain options will be offered at launch. The VLE 300 will arrive first, using a 272 horsepower electric motor. Later, the more powerful VLE 400 will join the lineup with 409 horsepower. This version can accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 6.4 seconds, which is impressive performance for a luxury van of this size.
All wheel drive will be available through a secondary rear electric motor that activates only when extra traction or power is required. This setup allows the vehicle to remain efficient in normal driving conditions while still delivering strong performance when needed.
Energy comes from a 115.0 kilowatt hour usable nickel manganese cobalt battery supported by advanced 800 volt electrical architecture. According to Mercedes Benz, the van can travel more than 434 miles on the European WLTP test cycle. Fast charging is also extremely capable, allowing the vehicle to add 221 miles of driving range in only 14 minutes.
The VLE also features Airmatic air suspension that actively adjusts ride height using navigation data from Google Maps. By predicting road conditions and terrain, the system keeps the vehicle as low as possible for improved efficiency. The suspension system can also provide up to 1.5 inches of travel for comfort and stability.
Despite its size, the VLE remains surprisingly maneuverable. Rear wheel steering allows up to 7 degrees of steering angle, giving the van a curb to curb turning radius of just 35.75 feet.
Inside the cabin, Mercedes Benz focuses heavily on luxury and flexibility. The VLE can seat between 6 and 8 passengers across three rows depending on wheelbase and seating configuration. Three different center console designs will be available, including a compact unit with wireless charging pads and a larger temperature controlled console for additional comfort.
The dashboard layout resembles the Vision V concept and features a 10.3 inch driver display, a 14.0 inch infotainment screen, and a 14.0 inch passenger interaction display. Rear passengers receive an impressive 31.1 inch 8K display that folds down from the headliner for entertainment or work. The system even includes an 8.0 megapixel camera designed for video conference calls.
Mercedes Benz will offer Roll and Go seating that allows passengers to manually slide seats forward or backward and lock them in place. Electrically adjustable seats will also be available. Additional luxury features include three zone climate control, folding tables for rear passengers, an augmented reality head up display, and a 22 speaker Burmester three dimensional surround sound system with Dolby Atmos.
Cargo capacity reaches up to 28.0 cubic feet with all three rows of seats in place. Mercedes Benz says final market specific details such as pricing, equipment levels, and official specifications will be announced closer to the vehicle’s launch.
