Mercedes Is Hiding a V8 Monster Inside the CLE and It Changes Everything

Mercedes Is Hiding a V8 Monster Inside the CLE and It Changes Everything

Mercedes Benz is quietly preparing something very special, and this time it goes far beyond a typical AMG upgrade. What we are looking at is an extreme interpretation of the CLE coupe, one that hints at a much deeper story inside the brand. This is not just about speed or power. It is about exclusivity, emotion, and a return to something purer for performance enthusiasts.

The new coupe is believed to be powered by a twin turbocharged 4.0 liter flat plane crank V8 engine, a configuration that immediately signals serious intent. This setup is expected to deliver around 650 horsepower and 590 pound feet of torque, placing it firmly in supercar territory. Flat plane crank V8 engines are known for their sharper response and higher revving nature, and seeing one in a Mercedes coupe suggests a very deliberate engineering choice aimed at driving feel rather than just numbers.

What makes this car even more interesting is its connection to the Mythos program. Mercedes Mythos is an ultra luxury low volume sub brand that focuses on rare, emotional vehicles produced in very limited numbers. The first Mythos model, the Mercedes AMG PureSpeed, was capped at just 250 units worldwide, instantly making it a collector piece. This CLE based model would become only the second Mythos vehicle, reinforcing how selective and special this lineup truly is.

Cold weather testing images from Sweden reveal a coupe that looks far more aggressive than a standard CLE. Even under heavy camouflage, the wide lower grille opening, flared stance, and massive rear wing are impossible to miss. The car appears wider and lower, with proportions that suggest serious aerodynamic development. This is not a cosmetic exercise. Everything visible points to performance driven design.

Mercedes has described the car as extreme, noting that while it is related to the CLE, it promises a more uncompromising appearance. That wording matters. It suggests this model may receive its own unique name, separating it from the standard CLE lineup and positioning it as something collectors and enthusiasts will talk about for years.

This project also feels like a message. At a time when many performance brands are moving away from large displacement engines, Mercedes is reminding the world that emotion still matters. Sound, response, and character are clearly part of the equation here, and that is exactly what enthusiasts have been asking for.

If this Mythos CLE reaches production as expected, it will not be a car you casually see on the street. It will be rare, dramatic, and intentionally exclusive. And for fans of high performance coupes with real personality, it could become one of the most memorable Mercedes models of the decade.
