Koenigsegg LEGO car world premiere

The LEGO Group and Koenigsegg have teamed up to create something that many automotive and LEGO fans never imagined possible. Their latest collaboration celebrates engineering, speed, and creativity with the introduction of the new LEGO Technic Koenigsegg Sadair’s Spear Megacar, a highly detailed model inspired by one of the world’s most extreme performance machines.

To mark the launch, the two companies decided not to stop at a scale model. Instead, they created a full size drivable version built primarily from LEGO Technic elements. The project was taken to the famous Goodwood hill climb course, where it achieved something completely unique. Driven by Koenigsegg test driver Markus Lundh, the giant LEGO creation reached a top speed of 111 kilometers per hour while tackling the course in reverse, setting a new record as the fastest drivable LEGO vehicle ever built.

The achievement is especially impressive considering the size and complexity of the build. The life size model consists of 327,906 LEGO pieces and weighs approximately 1,800 kilograms. Around 400 kilograms of that weight comes directly from LEGO elements. The project required more than 9,400 hours of development, design, and assembly before it was ready to take on the historic Goodwood course.

What makes the creation even more remarkable is the attention to detail. The LEGO Technic version features working Ghost Mode functionality, a lightweight body made entirely from LEGO Technic components, and even a recreation of the famous Koenigsegg key. Many of the moving parts operate just like they do on the real Sadair’s Spear, showing how closely the LEGO design team worked with Koenigsegg engineers throughout the project.

Christian von Koenigsegg praised the collaboration, noting that innovation and performance have always been central to the company’s philosophy. Seeing the Sadair’s Spear recreated both as a detailed 1:8 scale model and as a drivable life size machine demonstrates what can happen when engineering expertise and creative design come together.

The consumer version of the model joins the LEGO Technic Ultimate Car Concept Series as its sixth entry. The set contains 4,104 pieces and is designed to deliver one of the most advanced building experiences ever offered by LEGO Technic.

One of the standout features is a new rotating gear indicator that visually displays the active gear. The model also introduces a fully functional Ghost Mode system. With a single movement, the rear section lifts, the signature dihedral synchro helix doors open, the front hood rises, and the mirrors fold inward, closely replicating the behavior of the real hypercar.

Additional features include working steering, a removable roof, realistic drivetrain components, and a detailed V8 piston engine. LEGO designers also incorporated a 9 speed sequential gearbox and Koenigsegg’s unique Triplex suspension system, pushing the boundaries of what has previously been possible in a Technic Ultimate model.

The LEGO Technic Koenigsegg Sadair’s Spear Megacar will be available to LEGO Insiders starting July 1, 2026, before becoming available worldwide on July 4, 2026. With a price tag of $449.99 in the United States, the set targets serious collectors, automotive enthusiasts, and LEGO fans looking for a challenging project.
