Hyundai Issues Major Palisade Recall Over Power Seat Safety Risk
News surrounding the 2026 Hyundai Palisade has taken a serious turn as the company prepares a large safety recall affecting tens of thousands of sport utility vehicles in North America. Hyundai has temporarily halted sales of specific trims of the popular three row family vehicle while it works through a developing safety issue related to the power operated rear seats.
The recall covers approximately 68,500 vehicles across the United States and Canada. According to Hyundai, the issue involves the power folding second row and third row seats, which may not properly detect when an occupant or object is present. In certain situations, the system may continue moving even if something is in the seat’s path, which could create a dangerous situation.
The recall announcement comes after a tragic incident that occurred in Ohio on March 7 involving the incident with a young child. Hyundai stated that the investigation into the event is still ongoing and that the company does not yet have all the details surrounding the incident. In its official statement, Hyundai expressed deep sympathy to the family affected by the tragedy.
Vehicles included in the recall involve the higher trim levels of the Palisade lineup. Specifically, the Limited and Calligraphy versions are affected. Hyundai confirmed that 60,515 sport utility vehicles in the United States and an additional 7,967 vehicles in Canada fall under the recall campaign.
At the moment, Hyundai is working through the final technical details of the recall before submitting the full report to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Engineers are actively developing a permanent fix that will address the problem with the seat detection system.
While the final repair solution is being prepared, Hyundai plans to introduce an interim over the air software update for affected vehicles. The company expects this update to become available before the end of March.
According to Hyundai, the software update will improve the system’s ability to react when it comes into contact with passengers or objects. It will also add additional operating safeguards and enhance the overall safety behavior of the seat mechanism.
Hyundai has begun reaching out directly to owners of affected vehicles through email, phone calls, and other communication methods. Until the repair is completed, owners are being advised to use caution when operating the power folding seats in the second and third rows.
The Hyundai Palisade has been one of the brand’s most popular family vehicles, known for its spacious interior, advanced technology, and upscale design. Because of that popularity, the recall has quickly gained attention among owners and industry observers.
For now, Hyundai says its priority is to fully understand the issue, implement the necessary software protections, and deliver a permanent solution as quickly as possible to ensure the safety of passengers.
