Huawei Luxeed RX Interior Has Seats Unlike Anything Else

Huawei-backed Luxeed has revealed the new RX, and while its exterior gives the luxury sport utility vehicle a strong performance look, some of its most interesting technology is actually hidden inside the seats. Rather than simply adding more power adjustments, Luxeed has developed an intelligent seating system designed to adapt to the person behind the wheel.

The driver’s Intelligent Wraparound Seat uses an impressive 98 pressure sensors and 27 air bladders. These components work together to detect how the driver’s body is positioned and where pressure is being applied. The seat can then change its support to better match the driver’s body shape and seating position. Luxeed says the system can respond at the millisecond level, making adjustments much faster than a conventional electrically adjustable seat.

This technology becomes particularly interesting when the RX is being driven through corners. Traditional sports seats usually rely on large fixed side bolsters to keep the driver in position. They can provide excellent support, but the same shape may not work equally well for drivers of different sizes. Softer luxury seats solve the comfort problem, but they can allow more body movement when the vehicle is driven aggressively.

The RX attempts to combine both ideas. Its air chambers can adjust the amount of support around the driver’s body, creating an adaptive sports seat that can become more supportive when needed without forcing the driver into one fixed seating position.

Luxeed has also developed a predictive system using body shape and seating data. It can determine an appropriate seating configuration and then adapt according to the driver’s habits over time. Higher configurations also offer dual front zero gravity seats, adding another level of comfort when occupants want to relax.

The rest of the cabin continues the performance luxury theme. A 16.1 inch central display dominates the dashboard, joined by an 8.88 inch passenger display and a large 26 inch head up display. There is also a D shaped sports steering wheel with a dedicated BOOST button, along with ambient lighting extending across the cabin.

One particularly striking interior combination uses roughly 60% black, 30% white and 10% red. Combined with the sculpted seats, suede headliner and sporty details, it gives the RX a much more driver focused appearance than many luxury electric sport utility vehicles.

The Luxeed RX may attract attention because of its styling and technology, but its 98 sensor intelligent seat could end up being one of its most memorable features.
