Geely Cruiser 700 Has an Insane Water Mode

The Geely Galaxy Cruiser 700 is being developed as much more than another powerful luxury sport utility vehicle. Its 3-motor four-wheel-drive system produces around 1,113 horsepower, while 233 millimeters of ground clearance, a 30-degree approach angle, and a 31-degree departure angle give it serious potential away from pavement. Intelligent torque management can react when individual wheels lose traction, helping the Cruiser 700 work through mud, sand, rocks, and steep terrain.

But its ability around water is what really separates this Geely from most off-road vehicles. The production Cruiser 700 has a claimed conventional water-wading depth of 800 millimeters, or roughly 31.5 inches. That allows it to enter surprisingly deep water while maintaining normal contact between the tires and the ground.

Geely has also demonstrated technology that goes much further. The earlier Galaxy Cruiser concept was designed to float when water becomes too deep for conventional driving. Geely said the concept could remain afloat for as long as 2 hours and move through water at more than 8.5 kilometers per hour, or approximately 4.6 knots.

Vehicle-mounted sonar and water radar were developed to help the vehicle understand its surroundings while in the water. Reports suggest this amphibious technology could carry into the Cruiser 700, although Geely has not yet fully confirmed the concept’s complete 2-hour floating capability as a final production specification.
