Ford Mustang GTD Chases Nürburgring Glory Again in 2025
Ford is back at the Nürburgring, and this time, the Mustang GTD looks even more aggressive. If the name sounds familiar, it is because the GTD already carved out a piece of history on August 7, 2024, by becoming the fastest American production car to ever lap the Green Hell. That lap time? A blistering 6 minutes and 57.6 seconds. Not bad for something wearing a license plate.
Ford’s Chief Executive Officer Jim Farley hinted back in December that this beast would return in 2025 to chase an even faster lap. And now, spy shots show the GTD in full attack mode, reminding everyone that this is no ordinary Mustang. Sure, it is highly unlikely to dethrone the Mercedes-AMG One’s insane 6 minutes and 29 seconds lap, but Ford could realistically go after the Porsche 911 GT3’s 6 minutes and 55 seconds mark. Even beating the Porsche 911 GT3 RS or the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series may seem like a stretch, but you never know—Ford is clearly not holding back.
What makes the GTD so serious? For starters, it has a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine that growls with 815 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque. That is not just a number to brag about—it is backed by a top speed of 202 miles per hour. Only the Ford GT has ever been faster in the company’s history.
On the outside, the design screams race track warrior. It almost feels strange seeing a license plate bolted onto something this extreme. And if you are in Europe, do not be surprised if you cannot legally drive one on the streets. Ford has admitted the Mustang GTD might not be street-legal in some European markets.
Only 300 to 700 units will be built every year, making it not just fast but exclusive. Ford is also making sure that buyers do not flip these cars for a quick profit—owners will be required to keep their cars for at least two years before selling.
Make no mistake: this is not just a Mustang with extra power. It is a whole new kind of machine, aimed at taking on the best performance cars in the world. If you are as excited as we are, do not forget to like, subscribe, and hit the notification bell so you never miss a lap.
