Corvette ZR1X vs Czinger vs Lucid! America’s Fastest Drag Race

The return of MotorTrend’s World’s Greatest Drag Race proved one thing above all else: American performance cars have entered a new era. Held on the massive runway at March Air Reserve Base, the latest edition gathered some of the fastest machines built in the United States, ranging from electric luxury sedans and pickup trucks to hybrid hypercars and supercharged muscle cars. The result was a drag race full of surprises that challenged long held expectations about speed and performance.

The lineup featured the Lucid Air Sapphire, Czinger 21C V Max, Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X, Ford Mustang GTD, Rivian R1T Quad, Tesla Cybertruck Cyberbeast, Tesla Model 3 Performance, and Cadillac CT5 V Blackwing. Together, they represented more than 7,500 horsepower and showcased just how diverse American high performance engineering has become.

Before the race even began, the Corvette ZR1X and Czinger 21C V Max attracted the most attention. Both produce 1,250 horsepower, but they approach performance very differently. The Corvette combines a twin turbocharged 5.5 liter V8 with electric power, while the Czinger uses a highly advanced hybrid system and lightweight construction designed to maximize speed. Meanwhile, the Lucid Air Sapphire quietly waited in the staging lanes, ready to show what 3 electric motors could accomplish.

Once the lights turned green, the Lucid launched with incredible force. Its instant electric torque helped it pull ahead almost immediately, leaving some of the world’s most exotic performance cars chasing from behind. At the finish line, the Lucid Air Sapphire completed the quarter mile in an astonishing 9.14 seconds at 153.2 miles per hour. That was enough to defeat the Czinger 21C V Max, which crossed the line in 9.23 seconds despite recording the highest trap speed of the race at 156.9 miles per hour.

The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X finished close behind with an impressive 9.36 second pass at 153.4 miles per hour, proving General Motors has built one of the quickest production Corvettes ever. Although it did not win, the ZR1X demonstrated outstanding acceleration and remained within striking distance of the two leaders throughout the race.

The battle for fourth place turned into one of the closest finishes of the day. Rivian’s R1T Quad shocked many viewers by defeating the Ford Mustang GTD by only 0.02 second. The Rivian recorded a 10.45 second run at 128.6 miles per hour, while the Mustang GTD followed immediately behind with a 10.47 second pass at 134.9 miles per hour. The Mustang’s higher speed showed it was accelerating harder near the finish, but the Rivian’s explosive launch made the difference.

Tesla’s Cybertruck Cyberbeast completed the quarter mile in 10.97 seconds at 113.7 miles per hour, while the Tesla Model 3 Performance finished in 11.11 seconds at 123.2 miles per hour. The only manual transmission car in the competition, the Cadillac CT5 V Blackwing, recorded an 11.66 second run at 124.7 miles per hour, reminding everyone that traditional supercharged V8 power can still put on a great show.

Since the runway stretched far beyond a normal drag strip, the organizers decided to stage another race using only the five quickest vehicles over a half mile. That longer distance completely changed the outcome.

As speeds climbed above 150 miles per hour, the Czinger’s advanced aerodynamics and relentless acceleration began to shine. It steadily reeled in the Lucid before charging past near the finish line. The Czinger 21C V Max won the half mile in 14.40 seconds at an incredible 187.9 miles per hour.

The Lucid Air Sapphire finished only 0.10 second behind with a remarkable 14.50 second run at 181.9 miles per hour. The Corvette ZR1X remained close as well, crossing the finish in 14.70 seconds at 181.7 miles per hour.

The Ford Mustang GTD claimed fourth place by reaching 161.7 miles per hour and completing the half mile in 16.50 seconds. The Rivian R1T Quad finished fifth with a 17.35 second run at 130.7 miles per hour, limited by its electronic top speed.

The event highlighted how different performance philosophies can all produce extraordinary results. Electric vehicles delivered breathtaking launches, hybrid hypercars dominated once speeds increased, and traditional V8 powered machines still proved they belong among the fastest cars America has ever built.

More importantly, the race showed that there is no single formula for building the ultimate performance machine. Whether powered by gasoline, electricity, or a combination of both, every manufacturer brought something unique to the runway. If this competition is any indication, the future of American performance has never looked faster.
