Brand New Mazda MX-5 destroyed one mile from delivering dealer with 11 miles on car

Brand New Mazda MX-5 destroyed one mile from delivering dealer with 11 miles on car, It is sad to see these types of stories but here is what the owner posted on miata.net

“What a day……I’m still in shock and don’t feel much like writing, or anything else. But yesterday was probably one of the worst (yet luckiest) days of our lives in our many years on this earth. My wife and I picked up our beautiful LE in a fantastic delivery experience.

Long story short, our brand new LE with 11 miles (!) on it was rear ended and most likely (hopefully) totaled less than a mile from our delivering dealer. My wife and I were happily driving home (at 25-30 mph in suburban traffic) and she had just snapped a pic of me at the wheel, when BAAAAM! we were rear ended out of the clear by a F150 pickup doing at least 50 mph or more. Then after that impact we were propelled onto a Mazda 3 sedan in front of us. BAAAAM again as I attempted to brake and FCW did work as far as I can tell. Both air bags deployed and seat belt tensioners worked.

I was in shock, rage, disbelief and panic as my wife after 1 or 2 seconds was sobbing and crying hysterically and couldn’t, wouldn’t get out of the car. I consoled her as pedestrians and 3 Jacksonville Sheriffs officers cars appeared immediately. She was so overwhelmed with disappointment for me and was so overwrought that our adventure was over in an instant. I spent the better part of 5-10 mins with her to settle her down and then the EMT’s arrived and took over. She was put on a backboard and taken to hospital with unknown issues at this point. She was released last night and is on pain killers and muscle relaxers.

The car is at a wrecking yard, police report done (drug related DUI is suspected) and I am in total down mode. Yet, we have to be thankful the “higher powers” that be that we walked away from this. It is also a testament to Mazda and their design and engineering team that the car did what it should do in so many ways and we literally walked away from what could have been a fatal in just slightly different circumstances. 5000 lb F150, no brakes applied, closes on us at a 20-30 mph difference and punts us into a car in front of us at probably a 15-20 mph closing speed difference and we walk away! Amazing……..

The car still runs, but that’s about it. Trunk is jammed, fenders and body parts are in contact with the wheels, and the body gaps around the doors have shifted, but the doors both still open.

Anyway, that’s my report on the extremely short life of our new LE. Not sure what’s next, but the payment calculations started yesterday and our trade is already in dealer inventory. will talk to our insurance company tomorrow and take it from there.

Sorry for the downer report, but that’s what it is. Will update as I get more details on what’s next. Anybody know of a nice, new 6 speed LE for sale?? Here is a before pic. Can’t figure out how to load more than one at a time. Will post more later.”
