BMW M Hits 1 Million Cars and Confirms Electric M3 Production
BMW M has reached a major milestone with the production of its 1 millionth BMW M vehicle, celebrating more than 5 decades of performance cars.
The milestone car is a BMW M3 finished in striking BMW Individual Fire Orange III paint. It rolled off the production line at BMW Group Plant Munich, where it was officially presented by plant director Peter Weber to BMW M Chief Executive Officer Franciscus van Meel.
The achievement arrives 40 years after the first BMW M3 entered the market, but BMW is already looking toward the next generation. The Munich factory will eventually build the first fully electric BMW M3, which will introduce BMW M Neue Klasse technology to the high performance lineup.
The electric M3 will follow the fully electric BMW i3 into production in Munich and will be built exclusively at the historic plant. The facility has produced BMW vehicles for more than 100 years and has been building the current generation BMW M3 since 2020.
For BMW M, the transition represents more than simply replacing an engine with electric motors. The company says its future performance vehicles will continue combining racetrack capability, everyday usability and the driving character expected from an M car.
Reaching 1 million BMW M vehicles is an impressive look back at the brand’s history, but the timing also makes this milestone a preview of what comes next. The M3 story that began with combustion power is now preparing to enter the electric Neue Klasse era.
