Baby Driver Test Drives Electric Jaguar I-Pace – Video

Baby Driver Test Drives Electric Jaguar I-Pace – Video

The Baby Driver star got a taste of the all-wheel drive agility and instant torque of Jaguar’s first electric vehicle (EV) in his native New York. With 400PS and 696Nm of torque, I-PACE offers acceleration from 0-60mph in as little as 4.5 seconds – allowing Ansel to prove his driving skill was more than a camera trick.

Filmed at Seret Studios in Brooklyn, ahead of the I-PACE’s North American debut at the New York International Auto Show (30 March to 8 April), the industrial, dockside location was the ideal place to demonstrate the speed and flexibility of the performance SUV.

For his role in Baby Driver, as a highly skilled getaway driver, Ansel was taught by some of the best stunt drivers in Hollywood and performed a number of stunts himself making him the perfect choice for the Jaguar Smart Cone challenge.

Powered by the battery, two synchronous permanent magnet electric motors drive the front and rear axles. This enables the instant and precise distribution of torque as the I-PACE continuously adapts its front-rear balance to suit road conditions.

Conceived as a high-performance EV from the outset with an exceptional 480km range (WLTP), the I-PACE delivers engaging driving dynamics, everyday usability and comfort, with a unique balance of ride refinement and control. Jaguar has placed the battery as low as possible between the axles, providing 50:50 weight distribution and a centre of gravity 130mm lower than the F-PACE, optimising composure and reducing body roll.

I-PACE’s advanced double wishbone front and integral link rear suspension deliver both incredible ride comfort and the extra stiffness needed during dynamic driving, ensuring excellent handling, grip and steering responses. The compact and lightweight suspension design features aluminium suspension links and knuckles to reduce weight, while maximising interior space.

The Smart Cone course, likened to the sports agility training game Batak, uses wireless technology to randomly illuminate pairs of cones to set out a different route each time. With millions of different potential options taking place in real time, the technology provides a unique test of driving skill, precision and reactions.

Ansel follows in the tyre tracks of fellow actor Nicholas Hoult and Formula 1 driver Romain Grosjean, who have previously taken on the twists and turns of the Smart Cone Challenge in the Jaguar XF AWD R-Sport and XF respectively.

The Jaguar I-PACE is available now, priced from £63,495*.
