2028 Jeep Scrambler Could Be Jeep’s Wildest Truck

2028 Jeep Scrambler Could Be Jeep’s Wildest Truck

Jeep could be preparing one of its most unusual performance vehicles yet with the rumored 2028 Jeep Scrambler. Inspired by the classic Jeep CJ-8 Scrambler, the new model is expected to combine the open-air character of the Wrangler with the usefulness of a compact pickup truck.

The biggest surprise could be the layout. Rather than simply creating a shorter version of the Gladiator, Jeep appears to be developing the Scrambler as a 2-door pickup with seating for 4 people. Reports suggest the rear passengers could even get seats capable of facing rearward, giving the Scrambler a very different personality from a traditional pickup.

Performance could become an even bigger part of the story. An SRT version is expected, and rumors point toward the return of the 6.4-liter HEMI V8. If that engine makes its way into the production Scrambler, output could reach around 470 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. Combined with a shorter body and aggressive off-road hardware, that could turn the Scrambler into one of Jeep’s wildest production vehicles.

Jeep could also make some major changes underneath. Reports suggest an independent front suspension is being considered instead of the traditional solid front axle found on the Wrangler. That could give the Scrambler better high-speed stability and help position it as more of a desert performance truck while still maintaining serious off-road capability.

Styling is expected to have a strong retro influence, possibly including square headlights, a forward-leaning front end, a prominent hood intake and removable roof panels. The overall design could take inspiration from classic military Jeeps while giving the Scrambler a much more modern and aggressive appearance.

A final production date, price and complete specifications have not been announced. However, current reports point toward a possible 2028 model year, with the high-performance SRT version potentially becoming the centerpiece of the lineup.

If Jeep delivers a 2-door, 4-seat pickup with removable roof panels and a 6.4-liter V8, the Scrambler could become one of the most distinctive vehicles in Jeep’s modern lineup.
