2028 Genesis GV90 Flagship EV Gets Serious Technology

The 2028 Genesis GV90 is shaping up to be one of the most important vehicles Genesis has ever introduced. Hyundai Motor Company used its 2026 CEO Investor Day to put the new flagship electric sport utility vehicle in the spotlight, making it clear that the GV90 will play a major role as Genesis enters its second decade.

Genesis has grown quickly since becoming a standalone luxury brand, and the GV90 is designed to show just how far the company has come. Rather than simply creating a larger version of the GV80, Genesis developed a dedicated flagship that combines electric performance, advanced technology and an interior focused heavily on passenger comfort.

The GV90 is based on the eMP platform developed specifically for the Genesis flagship. Its proportions immediately establish it as a large luxury vehicle. Overall length measures 5,285 millimeters, width is 2,030 millimeters and the wheelbase stretches 3,245 millimeters. That long wheelbase also helps create a spacious passenger compartment with a flat floor and a clean, open cabin layout.

Power comes from 2 electric motors. Genesis lists the front motor at a maximum of 240 kilowatts and the rear motor at 250 kilowatts. More importantly for everyday use, the GV90 carries a massive 123.5 kilowatt-hour battery, currently the largest battery capacity used in an electric vehicle from Hyundai Motor Group.

Genesis estimates that the 7-seat GV90 can travel approximately 500 kilometers on a single charge based on its internal development testing. When connected to a 350 kilowatt fast charger, the battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in approximately 22 minutes. A wireless battery management system also helps improve packaging efficiency inside the battery system.

Battery safety is receiving considerable attention as well. Hyundai announced that its new Thermal Runaway Protection technology will debut on the Genesis GV90. The system is designed to prevent heat from spreading between battery cells if a problem develops. A cloud-based battery management system can also monitor the battery and identify potential abnormalities before they become more serious.

Where the GV90 becomes particularly interesting is inside. Genesis is offering the flagship in 3 different expressions, including the GV90, GV90 Neolun and GV90 Neolun First Edition. The Neolun versions feature the dramatic Neolun Arch Gate doors, creating an unusually large entrance into the cabin. The First Edition goes even further with features such as genuine wood flooring, radiant floor heating and a private refreshment refrigerator.

Genesis has also developed motorized front seats capable of rotating 180 degrees while the vehicle is parked. This allows the front passengers to face those sitting in the rear, transforming the interior into something closer to a private lounge. Available Nappa leather, poplar wood and premium textile finishes reinforce the luxury atmosphere.

Technology is equally important. A 24.6-inch display is paired with Bang & Olufsen 3D surround sound, while available Routines can coordinate the displays, ambient lighting, fragrance, audio and climate settings. The GV90 also introduces features including a roof airbag and rotary column shifter.

The GV90 will also have an important role behind the scenes. Hyundai confirmed that its new electric vehicle facility in Ulsan, South Korea, will begin production with the Genesis GV90. The software-defined factory will use 108 advanced manufacturing tools along with artificial intelligence-based quality inspection and a manufacturing artificial intelligence agent.

For Genesis, the GV90 represents more than another electric sport utility vehicle. It becomes the technological flagship for a brand targeting 350,000 annual sales across more than 40 markets by 2030. Genesis USA identifies it as the 2028 GV90 and says it is scheduled to arrive in early 2027.
