2027 Ram ProMaster City Returns With Huge Cargo Space
Ram is bringing back the ProMaster City, and this time it arrives as a completely redesigned van built for modern commercial needs. The compact work van will return to the United States market for the 2027 model year, with sales expected to begin about a year from now. For businesses that rely on small cargo vans to move equipment and supplies around busy cities, the return of the ProMaster City could be a welcome development.
The new model rides on Stellantis’ global K0 mid size commercial van architecture. This platform already supports several European vans, including models from Citroën and Opel. Because of that shared foundation, the new Ram version closely resembles its European counterparts. One notable change is the updated Ram branding. The bold Ram wordmark will now appear prominently on the vehicle, signaling the brand’s new design direction that will gradually roll out across future Ram products.
Under the hood sits a turbocharged 1.6 liter four cylinder engine that produces 166 horsepower and 221 pound feet of torque. The engine is paired with an 8 speed automatic transmission that sends power exclusively to the front wheels. The suspension setup uses MacPherson struts at the front and an independent trailing arm design at the rear, a layout intended to balance ride comfort with the durability expected from a commercial vehicle.
Ram designed the ProMaster City with urban practicality in mind. The van stands just under 77 inches tall, allowing it to fit into most parking garages and tight city structures. It rides on a 129.0 inch wheelbase and features a turning radius slightly above 42 feet, helping drivers maneuver through crowded streets and job sites.
Cargo capacity is one of the van’s strongest points. Ram says the ProMaster City offers more than 167.1 cubic feet of cargo volume. Inside, the load floor stretches 111.1 inches in length with 48 inches between the rear wheel wells and 54 inches of cargo height. That space can handle two standard United States pallets or even large materials like 4 by 8 plywood sheets, making the van useful for a wide range of trades and delivery operations.
Accessing the cargo area is designed to be straightforward. The step in height is 23 inches, making it easier to load heavy items. Buyers can choose between 180 degree rear swing doors or a liftgate, while a passenger side sliding door measuring 36 inches wide and 48 inches tall comes standard. Ram is targeting more than 2,000 pounds of payload capacity along with a towing rating of about 2,000 pounds.
The ProMaster City focuses on getting work done, and the equipment reflects that purpose. Buyers will be able to choose between Cargo Van and Passenger Wagon versions, offered in two trims called Tradesman and SLT. The Passenger Wagon configuration can seat anywhere from 5 to 8 occupants.
Even the work focused Tradesman trim includes useful safety and comfort features such as forward collision warning, automatic headlights, rear parking sensors, heated front seats, and a programmable speed limiter. Inside the cabin, drivers will find a 10 inch digital instrument cluster along with a 10.0 inch infotainment screen that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Stepping up to the SLT trim adds more visual polish and convenience. It receives body color bumpers, fog lights, dual tone 17 inch wheels, front parking sensors, and a wireless phone charger. A heated steering wheel is available as an option.
Ram plans to offer the ProMaster City in 11 different configurations, including multiple window and panel arrangements along with two types of rear door access. Buyers will also be able to choose from 6 exterior colors.
Production of the van will take place in Turkey, and Ram expects the 2027 ProMaster City to reach dealerships during the first quarter of 2027. The brand is targeting a starting price below $40,000, positioning the van as a practical and affordable solution for small businesses and urban fleets.
