2027 Polestar 4 SUV Gets What the Coupe Was Missing

The 2027 Polestar 4 SUV takes one of the brand’s most unusual electric vehicles and gives it a much more practical shape. Polestar calls it an SUV, but from the side, it is hard to ignore the wagon influence. The longer roof and more upright rear section give the vehicle extra versatility without dramatically changing the sleek character of the original Polestar 4.

One of the biggest changes is surprisingly simple: there is finally a real rear window. Unlike the Polestar 4 Coupe, which relies heavily on a camera system for rear visibility, the SUV gets heated rear glass along with a hidden rear windshield wiper and washer tucked underneath the spoiler.

The dimensions remain close to the original model. Length stays at 190.5 inches, while width is 84.2 inches. The SUV stands 61.2 inches tall, an increase of nearly 0.9 inches. That small increase makes a noticeable difference in the cargo area. With the rear seats in place, Polestar lists up to 655 liters, or 23.1 cubic feet, of space when measured to the roof. Fold the seats and the taller body should make carrying larger items considerably easier.

There is more technology inside as well. An electrochromic glass roof allows occupants to adjust how much light enters the cabin through the center display. Roof rails are standard, while new wheel designs, tires, and exterior colors help separate this version from the Coupe.

Performance remains a major part of the package. The single motor version produces 268 horsepower and 253 pound feet of torque, reaching 62 miles per hour in 7.3 seconds. The dual motor model raises output to 544 horsepower and 506 pound feet, cutting the sprint to just 3.9 seconds.

Both versions use a 100 kilowatt hour battery. Polestar estimates up to 391 miles of range on the Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicles Test Procedure cycle for the single motor model and 373 miles for the dual motor version. Direct current fast charging peaks at 200 kilowatts, allowing a 10 to 80 percent charge in about 30 minutes.

The Polestar 4 SUV also supports bidirectional Vehicle to Load power at up to 3.3 kilowatts, giving owners the ability to run external electrical equipment from the battery.

It may carry the SUV name, but this new Polestar looks much more like an electric performance wagon. That might actually be its strongest selling point, combining the speed and technology of the Polestar 4 with the practicality many buyers felt the original design was missing.
