2027 Pajero Rendered Based on New Spy Photos

The Mitsubishi Pajero name is about to return in a way many enthusiasts did not expect. Recent spy photographs have given us our clearest look yet at the next generation model, and it is clear that Mitsubishi is not simply refreshing the old formula. This is a complete reinvention of the brand’s flagship sport utility vehicle.

Unlike earlier generations, the upcoming Pajero moves in a much more modern design direction. It carries some visual similarities to the Destinator crossover that debuted last summer, but it stands apart with a stronger and more traditional front fascia. The grille features a trapezoidal shape with horizontal bars, giving it a tougher and more upright presence. It feels deliberate, almost like Mitsubishi wants to remind everyone that this is still a serious body on frame sport utility vehicle.

Along the sides, pronounced bulges over the rear wheel arches give it a muscular stance. The lower door sections are sculpted differently from the Destinator, and the front fenders include additional decorative inserts with functional looking air vents. These small details add personality and help separate it from the brand’s crossover lineup.

At the rear, the new Pajero shows even more distinction. The license plate recess is positioned directly on the trunk lid, and the tail lights appear to be connected by a full width light bar, likely using light emitting diode technology. It gives the back end a wide and planted look, especially at night.

Under the skin, the Pajero is expected to ride on a frame platform closely related to the latest generation L200 Triton pickup truck. That means true off road capability remains a priority. Powertrain options could mirror the pickup, including a 2.4 liter four cylinder biturbo diesel engine producing 204 horsepower and 470 Newton meters of torque, paired with an 8 speed automatic transmission.

There is also strong speculation that Mitsubishi may offer a hybrid configuration similar to the Outlander. That setup combines a 2.4 liter gasoline engine with two electric motors and a 22.7 kilowatt hour battery pack, delivering a combined output of 306 horsepower. If this happens, the Pajero could become one of the few body on frame sport utility vehicles to offer both serious off road capability and electrified efficiency.

The official debut is expected closer to summer, with production reportedly beginning in Thailand. If the final production model stays close to what we are seeing in these prototypes, Mitsubishi may be preparing one of its most important launches in years.
