2027 Nissan Z Revealed With New Front End and Performance Updates

The Nissan Z has not been around very long, but Nissan is already giving its modern sports car a thoughtful refresh that feels more like fine tuning than a redesign. Revealed at the Tokyo Auto Salon, the updated Z shows that Nissan is listening to feedback while staying true to what makes this car special. It still looks unmistakably like a Z, but the details feel more confident and more mature.

The most noticeable change is right up front. The oversized grille that split opinions from day one is now gone, replaced by a cleaner and more purposeful two piece design. Slim horizontal elements sit at the top, while a wider lower opening handles cooling duties. A body colored divider separates the two sections, giving the front end a more balanced and intentional appearance. The result is a nose that looks sportier without trying too hard, something longtime Z fans will likely appreciate.

Nissan also introduced a new exterior color that quietly steals the spotlight. Unryu Green is a deep, rich shade that nods to the brand’s classic Grand Prix Green while feeling thoroughly modern. It changes character depending on lighting, which gives the Z a more premium presence on the road. Paired with new 19 inch ten spoke wheels, the car looks lower, sharper, and more planted, even when standing still.

Step inside and the changes are subtle but meaningful. A new light tan leather interior option adds warmth to the cabin and gives buyers another way to personalize their Z. Everything else remains familiar, which is not a bad thing. The cockpit still feels driver focused, with physical controls where you want them and a layout that encourages spirited driving rather than distraction.

One of the most talked about updates involves the Nismo model. Nissan has added a manual transmission option, something enthusiasts have been asking for since the beginning. Some interior photos show paddles behind the steering wheel, which likely relate to rev matching rather than an automatic gearbox. Either way, the message is clear. Nissan wants the Z to feel engaging and rewarding, not just fast on paper.

Under the skin, the improvements continue. The refreshed Z features retuned suspension with larger shock pistons, designed to improve body control and responsiveness. These changes should make the car feel more composed during aggressive driving while still remaining comfortable enough for everyday use. Timing wise, the updated Nissan Z is expected to arrive in Japan by the summer of 2026. While Nissan has not officially confirmed plans for the United States, it would not be surprising to see this refreshed version arrive later as a 2027 model.
