2027 Mitsubishi Pajero World Premiere Coming September 2

Mitsubishi is preparing to bring back one of the most recognizable names in its history. The new Mitsubishi Pajero is scheduled to make its global debut on September 2, 2026, and the biggest news is that this new generation appears ready to return to the rugged formula that helped build the Pajero name.

The fifth generation Mitsubishi Pajero will use body on frame construction with a ladder frame chassis. That is an important change because it positions the new Pajero as a serious off road sport utility vehicle rather than simply another road focused crossover. The setup should provide the strength and durability needed for rough trails, towing and demanding terrain.

Another major part of the package is Mitsubishi’s Super All Wheel Control system. This technology manages traction, torque distribution, braking and vehicle stability to help the driver maintain control across changing surfaces. Mitsubishi has years of experience developing this technology, including its use in performance vehicles and more recently in the Triton pickup.

There are also reports suggesting the Pajero could combine Super All Wheel Control with Mitsubishi’s Super Select 4 Wheel Drive II system. If that happens, drivers could potentially choose between 2 wheel drive, full time all wheel drive and low range settings depending on the conditions. Mitsubishi has not officially confirmed the complete drivetrain configuration, so this remains one of the important details to watch during the September 2 reveal.

The powertrain is another big question. Hybrid technology is widely expected to play a role in the new Pajero, although Mitsubishi has not announced engine specifications, battery capacity or electric driving range. Considering the Pajero’s rugged positioning and its connection to the Triton platform, the electrified system could be designed around capability rather than simply maximizing electric range.

The exterior is also beginning to take shape through teaser images and information surrounding the upcoming model. Reports point toward more than 1 front end design, potentially allowing Mitsubishi to give different markets their own visual identity. A more aggressive off road version has also been rumored, possibly using the Ralliart name.

The Pajero revival could eventually become important for North America as well. Mitsubishi previously sold the Pajero there as the Montero, and the company’s longer term United States product strategy could leave room for a rugged sport utility vehicle. A new Montero has not been officially confirmed, but a successful Pajero launch could make the possibility much more interesting.

Mitsubishi may also have bigger plans for the Pajero name. Reports have suggested smaller Pajero inspired vehicles could arrive between 2028 and 2030, potentially turning the famous badge into a broader family of sport utility vehicles.

For now, the most important pieces are coming together. The Mitsubishi Pajero is returning, the ladder frame construction brings back genuine off road credentials, and September 2, 2026 should finally reveal how far Mitsubishi is willing to take its revived flagship sport utility vehicle.
