2027 Mercedes-Maybach GLS 680 Gets 603 HP and Stunning New Look

Mercedes-Benz continues to expand its flagship sport utility vehicle lineup with the arrival of the updated 2027 Mercedes-Maybach GLS 680. Following the refresh of the standard GLS, the ultra-luxury Maybach version receives a series of meaningful upgrades that focus on performance, technology, comfort, and styling. While the changes may appear subtle at first glance, they combine to make the latest model feel even more exclusive than before.

One of the biggest improvements is found under the hood. The new Maybach GLS 680 is powered by Mercedes-Benz’s latest twin turbocharged 4.0 liter V8 engine, known as the M177 Evo. The updated powerplant now produces 603 horsepower and 627 pound feet of torque. Compared to the previous model, that is an increase of 53 horsepower and 89 pound feet of torque, giving this luxury sport utility vehicle even stronger acceleration while maintaining the effortless character buyers expect from a Maybach.

The engine also benefits from a second generation integrated starter generator. This electrified system helps improve efficiency while delivering smoother starts and additional assistance during acceleration. Rather than changing the personality of the vehicle, it enhances the driving experience by making the already refined power delivery feel even more seamless.

Mercedes-Benz also updated the way the new Maybach GLS drives. Engineers revised the steering system to provide a more confident feel behind the wheel. Every model comes standard with the Airmatic air suspension, helping the vehicle glide over rough roads with impressive comfort. Buyers who want an even more advanced suspension system can choose E Active Body Control, which actively adjusts the suspension to reduce body roll, pitching, and lifting during different driving situations. The result is a large luxury sport utility vehicle that remains composed while delivering a smooth ride for everyone inside.

The exterior also receives a fresh look that makes the new model instantly recognizable. The redesigned front end introduces an illuminated grille surround, creating a striking appearance after dark. Mercedes-Benz also adds two features never before offered on one of its production vehicles. The Maybach grille badge is now illuminated, and the iconic standing Mercedes-Benz Star also lights up, giving the front of the vehicle an unmistakable presence.

Wheel choices continue to reflect the model’s premium status. Standard models ride on elegant 22 inch wheels with a classic 20 hole design. Buyers can also select optional 23 inch forged wheels featuring a precision ball bearing mechanism that keeps the Mercedes-Benz star centered and vertically aligned while the wheels rotate. It is a small detail, but one that perfectly matches the attention to craftsmanship expected from a Maybach.

Inside the cabin, technology takes another step forward. The latest MBUX Superscreen stretches across the dashboard with its triple display layout, providing both the driver and front passenger with a modern digital experience. The updated infotainment software adds new features and faster operation, while Rose Gold instrument accents and illuminated climate control air vents give the interior a more elegant atmosphere.

Passenger comfort remains one of the vehicle’s strongest qualities. Mercedes-Benz has improved the massage functions for both the front and second row seats, allowing occupants to enjoy an even more relaxing journey whether traveling across town or on longer road trips.

Music lovers will also appreciate the upgraded Burmester 3D Surround Sound System with Dolby Atmos. The premium audio setup now includes 15 speakers powered by a 710 watt amplifier, creating an immersive listening experience throughout the cabin.

Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that the 2027 Mercedes-Maybach GLS 680 will begin arriving at dealerships later this year. Official pricing has not yet been announced, but considering the current model starts at $181,350 including destination charges, many industry observers expect the updated version to begin at approximately $185,000 or slightly higher.

With its stronger V8 engine, advanced suspension technology, refined interior, and distinctive illuminated styling elements, the updated Maybach GLS 680 continues to raise the standard for full size luxury sport utility vehicles. It blends performance, craftsmanship, and modern technology into one of the most prestigious vehicles in the Mercedes-Benz lineup.
