2027 Mercedes CLE 63 AMG V8 Coupe Breakdown
Mercedes-Benz is getting ready to push its new CLE coupe into a much more serious performance territory, and the latest prototype sightings are starting to tell a clearer story. What began as a clean replacement for both the C-Class Coupe and E-Class Coupe is now evolving into something far more aggressive, especially at the top end of the range.
When the CLE first arrived in 2023, it felt like a smart consolidation move. Instead of splitting attention between two similar models, Mercedes-Benz focused on creating one coupe that could cover both segments. Not long after, the CLE 53 from Mercedes-AMG made its debut with a 3.0 liter twin turbocharged inline six, delivering strong performance while still keeping things relatively balanced and refined. But for enthusiasts, that was never going to be the final word.
Now, attention is shifting toward what looks like a full 63 version, and the changes are hard to ignore. Even under camouflage, the car carries a much more muscular stance. The front bumper appears more aggressive, with a wide central air intake and vertical slats that give it a sharper, more purposeful look. The grille design stays familiar, but everything around it feels more intense.
From the side, the wider fenders stand out immediately. The car sits lower and looks more planted, hinting at a serious upgrade in both performance and handling. At the rear, the design continues that theme with a large fixed spoiler that is not just for style. It signals real aerodynamic intent. The quad exhaust outlets, shaped in that signature angular style, confirm that this is not just another trim level, but something built to sit at the very top of the lineup.
The biggest story, however, is what is expected under the hood. While Mercedes-Benz has not officially confirmed the details, all signs point to a 4.0 liter twin turbocharged V8 making a return. Early estimates suggest around 660 horsepower and more than 800 newton meters of torque, which would put this coupe in serious competition with some of the fastest cars in its class. Compared to the CLE 53, which produces 449 horsepower and up to 600 newton meters with overboost, this is a massive step forward.
There is also an interesting shift happening with the character of the engine. The expected flat plane crankshaft setup hints at a more aggressive, high revving personality, something that could give this car a completely different driving feel compared to previous AMG models.
Adding to the exclusivity, this model is expected to be part of the Mythos series, making it more than just a performance upgrade. It becomes a collector focused machine, similar in spirit to the recently revealed AMG PureSpeed roadster. That alone suggests limited production and a higher level of attention to detail.
The official debut is expected later this year, and if everything lines up, this could easily become one of the most exciting Mercedes-AMG releases in recent memory. It blends the clean, modern design of the CLE with the raw power that enthusiasts have been waiting for, and it feels like Mercedes-Benz is aiming to remind everyone exactly what a top tier coupe should be.
