2027 Lexus NX Revealed With Major Upgrades

The Lexus NX is getting a significant update for 2027, bringing a fresh design, a completely reworked interior, and major improvements to its hybrid technology. Although the second generation NX has not been on the market for very long, Lexus is using this refresh to make its compact luxury sport utility vehicle quieter, more efficient, and more comfortable while giving drivers a noticeably different experience behind the wheel.

One of the biggest changes is found in the NX 450h+ plug in hybrid. Lexus has increased battery capacity from 18.1 kilowatt hours to 23.0 kilowatt hours. In the European specification model, that helps increase the estimated electric driving range from 37 miles to an impressive 62 miles. Combined system output is rated at 303 horsepower in Europe.

The NX 350h also receives important changes as Lexus introduces its sixth generation hybrid technology. A new lithium ion battery uses a design related to the system found in the latest Lexus ES 350h. The battery is lighter than before, while revisions to the cooling system are designed to improve performance and efficiency. The 2.5 liter 4 cylinder engine works with an electronic continuously variable transmission.

United States specifications could differ from the European models. For reference, the 2026 NX 350h produces 240 horsepower in the United States, while the NX 450h+ delivers 304 horsepower. Lexus also currently offers a non hybrid NX powered by a turbocharged 2.4 liter 4 cylinder engine producing 275 horsepower.

The exterior refresh gives the NX a cleaner and more modern appearance without abandoning the overall character of the current model. Up front, Lexus has redesigned the fascia around a new frameless interpretation of its spindle grille. The headlights have also been revised, giving the crossover a sharper expression.

Changes continue around the back, where Lexus has updated the taillight graphics with a repeating L shaped theme. Buyers looking for a sportier appearance will still have the F Sport version, which receives newly designed 20 inch wheels, red brake calipers, and aerodynamic details around the rear bumper.

The biggest transformation, however, may be waiting inside.

Lexus has redesigned the dashboard, center console, and instrument panel, taking inspiration from newer models such as the Lexus ES and Lexus TZ. A large 14.0 inch infotainment screen becomes the visual centerpiece of the cabin and is positioned alongside a 12.3 inch driver display. Capacitive climate and camera controls are positioned above the air vents, helping create a cleaner dashboard layout.

Lexus has also paid attention to details drivers will notice every day. The seating position has been lowered even though the seat itself remains largely unchanged. This places the driver closer to the vehicle’s center of gravity and should create a more connected feeling from behind the wheel.

A redesigned steering wheel is 0.39 inches smaller in diameter. Lexus has also improved its shape for grip and comfort while increasing the telescopic adjustment range so drivers can position the wheel closer to themselves. The accelerator pedal has been revised for more natural operation, while steering response has also been improved.

Some of the most meaningful upgrades are hidden beneath the surface. Lexus reshaped the engine block to increase rigidity and added additional sound absorbing materials around areas including the rear bumper, rear doors, and center pillars. According to Lexus, these changes help reduce engine and road noise by approximately 20 percent.

Floor rigidity has increased by around 25 percent, which should improve steering response while helping control unwanted vibrations. Lexus also redesigned the front suspension tower and integrated it more closely with the front pillar structure. That change results in an approximately 30 percent improvement in rigidity.

Taken together, these changes show that the 2027 Lexus NX refresh is about much more than new lights and screens. Lexus has worked on efficiency, refinement, structural stiffness, driving position, steering response, cabin technology, and noise reduction.

Pricing for the refreshed model has not yet been announced. For comparison, the 2026 NX 350h starts at $46,570 in the United States including the $1,395 destination charge, while the 2026 NX 450h+ starts at $59,505.

The updated NX is expected to reach European dealerships in early spring 2027. Lexus has not yet confirmed United States timing or pricing, but if these upgrades carry over, the refreshed NX could become a considerably stronger competitor in the compact luxury sport utility vehicle market.
