2027 Lexus ES 500e Has 338 HP and AWD

The 2027 Lexus ES 500e brings a completely electric personality to one of Lexus’ most established luxury sedans. After making its debut for the 2026 model year, the ES 500e carries over unchanged for 2027, combining a spacious new-generation ES body with dual electric motors, all-wheel drive, and the quiet character expected from a Lexus luxury sedan.

Power comes from a 74.7-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery positioned beneath the passenger compartment. The front permanent magnet synchronous electric motor produces 221 horsepower, while a second motor at the rear contributes 118 horsepower. Together, the system delivers 338 horsepower and Lexus DIRECT4 all-wheel drive.

Performance is surprisingly strong for a sedan focused heavily on comfort. Lexus estimates the ES 500e can accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 5.1 seconds. DIRECT4 can continuously manage power between the front and rear axles depending on acceleration, steering input, vehicle speed, and available traction. During hard acceleration from a stop, the system can adjust the power distribution to help reduce unwanted body movement and give the ES a more controlled feeling.

With the standard 19-inch wheels, the ES 500e carries an Environmental Protection Agency-estimated driving range of 276 miles per full charge. Choosing the available 21-inch wheels slightly reduces that figure to 272 miles.

Charging should also be relatively straightforward. The ES 500e uses a North American Charging System charge port and supports direct current fast charging at speeds of up to 150 kilowatts. Under ideal conditions, Lexus says charging from 10 percent to 80 percent can take approximately 28 minutes. Its onboard 11-kilowatt alternating current charger can complete Level 2 charging in about 7 hours under ideal conditions.

Inside, Lexus takes a minimalist approach without stripping away the luxury expected from an ES. Every ES 500e receives a 12.3-inch Multi-Information Display and a large 14.0-inch touchscreen running the latest Lexus Interface. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility are standard, along with a wireless device charger.

Luxury models raise the experience further with semi-aniline leather-trimmed seating, layered bamboo interior details and a 17-speaker, 1,800-watt Mark Levinson PurePlay Surround Sound System. The ES 500e also benefits from the larger dimensions of the latest ES, providing additional passenger space compared with the previous generation.

Safety technology is another major part of the package. Lexus Safety System+ 4.0 comes standard and incorporates features designed to assist with collision avoidance, lane positioning, cruise control and everyday driving situations.

The 2027 Lexus ES 500e ultimately takes a different approach from an electric performance sedan. Its 338 horsepower and 5.1-second acceleration give it useful speed, but comfort, refinement, technology and quiet operation remain central to its personality. For buyers who like the traditional Lexus ES formula but are ready to leave gasoline behind, the ES 500e could be one of the most interesting versions yet.
