2027 Kia Seltos Gets Bigger, Smarter, and More Powerful

2027 Kia Seltos Gets Bigger, Smarter, and More Powerful

The new 2027 Kia Seltos is finally coming into focus for the United States, and while it may look familiar at first glance, there is a lot going on beneath the surface. Kia already showed the redesigned version for global markets, but now we have a clearer picture of what buyers in America can expect. This is not just a simple refresh. It feels like a more mature, more refined version of a vehicle that was already doing well in its segment.

One of the biggest talking points is the variety of powertrain options. Kia is giving buyers flexibility, starting with a naturally aspirated 2.0 liter four cylinder engine producing 147 horsepower. This setup will be found in several trims, including LX, S, EX, and X Line, and it comes paired with a continuously variable transmission. Front wheel drive is standard, but all wheel drive is available for those who want extra confidence in different driving conditions.

For drivers looking for more performance, there is a turbocharged 1.6 liter engine delivering 190 horsepower. This version is tied to the X Line trim and comes with all wheel drive as standard, making it the more spirited choice in the lineup.

Then there is the hybrid, which adds a completely different layer to the Seltos story. It combines a 1.6 liter engine with a six speed automatic transmission, offering improved efficiency without sacrificing everyday usability. Front wheel drive comes standard here as well, but an electric all wheel drive system will be available, promising extra power and better traction when needed. Full details on the hybrid are still on the way, which keeps the anticipation high.

Visually, the new Seltos takes a noticeable step forward. The design leans heavily on inspiration from larger Kia models, giving it a more upscale presence on the road. It is also slightly bigger now, with an additional 2.4 inches in wheelbase, which directly benefits interior space. Ground clearance reaches up to 8.1 inches, making it more capable for light off road use or rougher roads.

Wheel options range from 16 inches all the way up to 19 inches depending on the trim, with the X Line models getting a more rugged look through unique bumpers and darker exterior accents. It gives the crossover a stronger personality, especially for buyers who want something that stands out.

Inside, the cabin feels more modern and tech focused. There is a clear influence from Kia’s newer electric models, with a cleaner layout and upgraded materials. The longer wheelbase translates into more room for passengers, especially in the rear, where legroom has increased by 1.0 inch. Overall comfort has improved across the board.

Technology is a major highlight as well. A 12.3 inch infotainment display comes standard, along with a 5.0 inch climate control interface. An additional 12.3 inch digital driver display is available, giving the interior a more premium feel. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, which is something many buyers now expect as standard.

Cargo space is also practical, offering up to 64.1 cubic feet behind the front row and 27.8 cubic feet behind the second row. That makes the Seltos a strong choice for everyday use, road trips, or even small family duties.

The 2027 Seltos is set to debut at the New York Auto Show and will arrive in the United States within the next three months. The hybrid version will follow later in the year. Pricing has not been confirmed yet, but based on the current model starting at $25,285, a slight increase is expected.

Overall, the new Seltos feels like Kia is doubling down on what already worked, while adding more technology, more efficiency, and a more premium feel. It is shaping up to be one of the more well rounded options in the compact crossover space.
