2027 Hyundai Tucson World Premiere – All-New SUV Revealed
Hyundai has officially pulled the covers off the all-new 2027 Tucson, giving one of the brand’s most important sport utility vehicles a major redesign inside and out. Making its world premiere in New York City, the latest Tucson moves away from some of the sharper styling cues of the previous generation and introduces a more upright, rugged appearance that gives it a stronger road presence.
The exterior represents Hyundai’s latest Art of Steel design direction. Up front, the Tucson uses a new lighting treatment called H-Edge lighting, while the rear receives distinctive Prism Rear Lamps. The body itself looks cleaner and more substantial, with pronounced wheel arches, straighter surfaces, and proportions that make the Tucson look more like a traditional sport utility vehicle.
The North American version has also grown. It measures approximately 185 inches long, 75 inches wide, and 66.3 inches tall. Compared with the previous generation, Hyundai says the vehicle is around 60 millimeters longer, 40 millimeters wider, and 20 millimeters taller. Another practical change involves the doors, which can open as much as 83 degrees to make getting into the cabin easier.
Hyundai is also making a major push with electrification. The new Tucson Hybrid is targeting fuel economy of up to 42 miles per gallon in front wheel drive form when equipped with 17 inch wheels. Hyundai is also targeting acceleration from 0 to 60 miles per hour in approximately 8.5 seconds.
The hybrid introduces E-Traction technology, which can use electric motor torque to help improve stability and traction while driving. Another interesting feature is Hybrid Electric Vehicle Stay Mode. This allows occupants to use features such as climate control, audio, and device charging while stationary without continuously running the gasoline engine.
A conventional gasoline powertrain will also be available. Hyundai has announced a 1.6 liter turbocharged gasoline direct injection engine producing 184 horsepower and paired with an 8 speed automatic transmission.
For selected global markets, Hyundai is taking electrification even further with a plug in hybrid version. This model is expected to produce approximately 288 horsepower and provide an estimated electric driving range of around 50 miles. Availability will depend on the market.
Inside, the Tucson takes an equally large step forward. Hyundai is introducing its Pleos Connect infotainment system, which is based on the Android Automotive operating system. Depending on configuration, customers can get a 12.9 inch or massive 17 inch central display, along with a separate 9.9 inch slim display.
Hyundai is also introducing Gleo AI, a conversational artificial intelligence assistant designed to let occupants control functions and request information using more natural speech. Pleos Connect supports third party applications and over the air software updates, helping the Tucson remain current as new features become available. Hyundai has also retained physical controls for several commonly used functions rather than moving everything onto the touchscreen.
One of the biggest surprises is the new Tucson XRT Pro. Instead of simply adding rugged looking exterior pieces, Hyundai is giving this version equipment intended to improve its ability away from paved roads. The XRT Pro receives additional ground clearance, all terrain tires, extra lower body protection, and dedicated off road technology.
For North America, the XRT Pro also introduces Smart Terrain Assist. The combination should make this version much more interesting for buyers who actually plan to take their Tucson onto dirt roads, trails, snow, or other challenging surfaces.
The 2027 Hyundai Tucson represents a significant change for the nameplate. It is larger, more rugged, more technologically advanced, and increasingly focused on electrified powertrains. Hyundai plans to introduce the new Tucson in Korea later in 2026, followed by North America, Europe, and additional global markets during 2027.
Pricing for the United States has not yet been announced, but with its completely redesigned exterior, upgraded hybrid technology, huge available 17 inch display, and more capable XRT Pro model, the new Tucson could become one of Hyundai’s most important launches for the 2027 model year.
