2027 Honda Passport Pricing, MPG & TrailSport Upgrades

2027 Honda Passport Pricing, MPG & TrailSport Upgrades

The 2027 Honda Passport is beginning to arrive at Honda dealerships, bringing a meaningful round of updates that focus heavily on the rugged TrailSport side of the lineup. Rather than making small cosmetic adjustments, Honda has given the Passport TrailSport a substantially reworked suspension, additional ground clearance, new exterior details, more standard technology, and expanded equipment. Pricing for the 2027 lineup starts at $45,195 before the $1,595 destination and handling charge.

The Passport has become an increasingly important sport utility vehicle for Honda. The fourth generation model was introduced in early 2025, and Honda says it has since generated record sales. Even more significant is the popularity of the TrailSport versions, which now account for more than 80% of Passport sales. That helps explain why many of the biggest changes for 2027 are concentrated on the TrailSport and TrailSport Elite models.

The biggest mechanical update is a completely reengineered suspension for the Passport TrailSport and TrailSport Elite. Ground clearance increases to 9.65 inches, representing a substantial gain of 1.38 inches compared with the 2026 Passport TrailSport.

That extra height is about more than simply giving the Passport a tougher stance. Honda says the suspension changes improve the approach angle, breakover angle and departure angle, while also providing greater suspension articulation and better off road ride quality. These changes should allow the TrailSport to deal more effectively with uneven terrain, rocks, ruts and steeper obstacles.

Honda also points out that the new 9.65 inch ground clearance exceeds key competitors including the Toyota 4Runner TRD Off Road and Subaru Outback Wilderness. The goal is clear: Honda wants the Passport TrailSport to be viewed as a genuinely capable adventure vehicle rather than simply a family sport utility vehicle with rugged styling.

Every 2027 Passport continues to come with a 3.5 liter 6 cylinder engine and Honda’s Intelligent Variable Torque Management 4 all wheel drive system. The system can actively distribute torque between the rear wheels, helping the Passport maintain traction and stability across changing road and trail conditions. The combination of naturally aspirated 6 cylinder power and standard torque vectoring all wheel drive remains one of the defining characteristics of the Passport lineup.

Honda has also made the TrailSport visually easier to distinguish. The refreshed model receives more pronounced front and rear fender flares along with a darker, reshaped lower front fascia. One of the most noticeable additions is a pair of amber light emitting diode lights integrated around the hood scoop area, giving the front end a more distinctive appearance.

Buyers looking for an even darker appearance can choose the available Blackout Package. For 2027, the package adds new black front and rear fascias that complement the black 18 inch alloy wheels and black Honda badging. Combined with the wider looking fender treatment and increased ride height, the package gives the Passport a considerably more aggressive appearance.

The regular TrailSport also receives 2 features that were previously reserved for the more expensive TrailSport Elite. Honda’s TrailWatch camera system is now standard on the TrailSport, providing additional visibility around the vehicle when navigating difficult terrain or tight areas. A heated steering wheel also becomes standard equipment on the TrailSport.

Honda has added a new exterior color across the Passport range as well. Smoke Blue Pearl replaces Obsidian Blue Pearl for 2027, giving buyers another way to distinguish the refreshed model from the previous version.

Pricing starts with the Passport RTL at a manufacturer suggested retail price of $45,195. After the $1,595 destination and handling charge, the total suggested retail price is $46,790. The RTL Towing version is priced at $45,895 before destination and $47,490 including destination.

The 2027 Passport TrailSport starts at $49,995 before destination, with a total suggested retail price of $51,590. The TrailSport Blackout moves up to $51,495, or $53,090 including destination.

The TrailSport Elite carries a manufacturer suggested retail price of $53,695 and a total suggested retail price of $55,290. At the top of the range, the TrailSport Elite Blackout starts at $55,195 before destination and reaches $56,790 with the destination and handling charge included.

Fuel economy varies depending on the version. According to the Environmental Protection Agency ratings supplied by Honda, the Passport RTL and RTL Towing are rated at 19 miles per gallon in the city, 25 miles per gallon on the highway and 21 miles per gallon combined.

The more off road focused TrailSport models sacrifice a small amount of fuel economy for their more aggressive configuration. The TrailSport, TrailSport Blackout, TrailSport Elite and TrailSport Elite Blackout are each rated at 18 miles per gallon city, 22 miles per gallon highway and 20 miles per gallon combined.

Development of the latest Passport has strong American connections. Honda says the fourth generation Passport was designed at its design studio in Southern California and developed at the Honda Automotive Development Center in Ohio. Production takes place exclusively at Honda’s Alabama Auto Plant in Lincoln, Alabama, using domestic and globally sourced parts.

The Passport’s 3.5 liter 6 cylinder engine is also produced at the engine manufacturing operation within the Alabama facility. The plant is celebrating its 25th year since beginning operations, making the Passport another important part of Honda’s United States manufacturing footprint.

The Passport is also about to take on a new international role. Honda plans to export the Passport TrailSport Elite to Japan later in 2026. That is an interesting development for a vehicle designed, developed and manufactured in the United States, and it gives the rugged Passport a presence in Honda’s home market.

Honda National Auto Sales assistant vice president Luis Guerra said the refreshed TrailSport builds on the momentum of Honda’s most rugged sport utility vehicle by providing greater off road capability, stronger styling and additional standard features. Honda is emphasizing the combination of the lifted suspension, standard 6 cylinder engine and the company’s durability reputation as key reasons buyers may consider the Passport for outdoor use.

The 2027 update does not completely reinvent the fourth generation Passport. Instead, Honda has concentrated on an area that customers have clearly responded to. With more than 80% of Passport buyers choosing TrailSport versions, increasing ground clearance to 9.65 inches, improving the suspension and adding previously exclusive equipment to the standard TrailSport directly strengthens the part of the lineup attracting the most attention.

For buyers, the result is a 2027 Passport lineup that starts at $45,195, while the upgraded TrailSport begins at $49,995. The TrailSport Elite Blackout sits at the other end of the range at $55,195 before destination. With the refreshed models now beginning to reach dealerships, the Passport enters 2027 with a stronger emphasis on genuine off road capability while retaining the 6 cylinder power, all wheel drive and practical character that have helped define the latest generation.
