2027 Honda Civic Type R Just Got Even Better
The 2027 Honda Civic Type R is getting a meaningful update, and Honda has focused on improving the areas that matter most to enthusiasts without changing the basic character of the car. The refreshed Type R receives sharper styling, better cooling, revised suspension tuning, improved braking feel, additional technology, and something owners have been requesting for years: heated front seats.
Under the hood, Honda continues with its turbocharged 2.0 liter K20C 4 cylinder engine producing 315 horsepower. The engine is paired exclusively with a manual transmission, keeping the Civic Type R firmly focused on drivers who still want a traditional, hands on experience. Honda also improved the Rev Match system for 2027, allowing the engine to respond more quickly during downshifts.
One of the biggest visual changes is found at the front. Honda redesigned the front fascia with a larger grille opening to improve airflow and engine cooling. Engineers also worked to reduce turbulence as air moves through the front of the vehicle. A deeper front splitter generates additional downforce and gives the Type R a more aggressive appearance.
Honda has also made changes underneath the car. Suspension damping in +R mode has been optimized to improve tire contact with the road while reducing unwanted bouncing and impact harshness. The goal is better stability and more predictable body movement when the driver begins pushing the car through corners.
Brake pedal feel has received attention as well. Honda added a yoke spring to reduce unwanted play in the brake pedal linkage, resulting in a more immediate and direct response.
Inside, the biggest everyday upgrade may be the addition of heated front sport seats. The signature red suede like upholstery remains, but Honda has introduced a new perforation pattern with black detailing. The seats are designed to help hold occupants in position during aggressive cornering while remaining comfortable enough for everyday driving.
The dashboard and upper front door panels now feature premium Ultrasuede material. Honda has also added a diamond pattern dashboard trim, black climate control and air vent knobs, darker gray finishes for the aluminum shift knob, console trim and door handles, along with silver front door trim.
Technology receives a major upgrade. Google built in is now standard and includes Google Gemini, Google Maps and Google Play. Alexa built in is also included, while 2 Universal Serial Bus Type C ports have been added above the standard wireless phone charger. An auto dimming rearview mirror is another new standard feature.
Safety technology has been improved with updates to Honda Sensing, including better detection of motorcycles and bicycles, smoother Lane Keeping Assist System operation and revised Adaptive Cruise Control responses. A Post Collision Braking System is also included.
For 2027, buyers can choose from 4 exterior colors, including the new Meteorite Gray Metallic, along with Boost Blue Pearl, Sonic Gray Pearl and Championship White.
The refreshed Civic Type R carries a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price of $48,695 and is scheduled to begin arriving at Honda dealerships this month. The timing is especially significant because 2027 marks 30 years since the Civic Type R first appeared in Japan and 10 years since the Type R name officially reached North America.
