2027 GMC Sierra First Look Everything Has Changed
The next generation GMC Sierra 1500 is almost here, and it is bringing much more than a simple facelift. Following the reveal of the redesigned 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, GMC has finally pulled back the curtain on its own full size pickup. The new Sierra receives a completely fresh look, a dramatically updated interior, and a new lineup of powerful V8 engines that promise to keep this truck competitive in one of the toughest segments on the market.
One of the biggest stories surrounding the 2027 Sierra is what is hiding under the hood. General Motors has confirmed that the truck will introduce two all new small block V8 engines. Buyers will have the choice between a 5.7 liter V8 and a larger 6.6 liter V8, although the company is keeping complete performance figures under wraps until closer to launch. Early expectations suggest the larger engine could deliver horsepower somewhere in the upper 400 range, giving drivers even more capability for towing, hauling, and everyday driving.
Not every buyer will choose a V8, however. GMC will continue offering the TurboMax 4 cylinder engine along with the trusted Duramax diesel V6. Every engine option will be paired with a 10 speed automatic transmission, giving the Sierra a broad lineup designed to meet different needs, whether customers prioritize efficiency, towing, or maximum power.
Outside, the Sierra adopts a more modern appearance while still remaining instantly recognizable. Designers borrowed several styling cues from the all electric Sierra EV, particularly around the front lighting. Slim headlights flow into a taller and more upright grille, creating a bold front end that looks more premium than before. Each trim level also receives its own distinctive grille design and styling details, allowing every version of the truck to have its own personality.
Inside the cabin, GMC focused heavily on technology and everyday usability. The dashboard introduces an entirely new layout that separates the Sierra from its Chevrolet sibling. One of the standout features is a 16.3 inch digital infotainment display that can slide to reveal a hidden storage compartment behind the screen. It is an innovative solution that combines technology with practical storage.
Passengers also receive more attention in the new Sierra. An available 11.5 inch passenger display includes an adjustable cover that allows part of the screen to remain hidden when desired, creating either a full display or a slimmer viewing area. Another clever addition is the new MultiPro center console, which transforms into a functional workspace, making it easier for owners to use laptops, complete paperwork, or organize gear while on the road.
Off road enthusiasts will naturally be drawn toward the AT4X model. GMC has equipped this version with 35 inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires, electronically locking front and rear differentials, and new Multimatic jounce control dampers to improve capability over rough terrain. A 2.9 inch suspension lift increases ground clearance, while an exclusive hood, aggressive grille insert, rugged front bumper, and available AEV Edition package give the truck an even tougher appearance.
The cabin of the AT4X also receives unique upgrades. Enhanced front seat bolsters provide additional support during off road adventures, while special trim accents help distinguish the interior. A flat bottom steering wheel adds a sporty touch, and standard features include a panoramic sunroof along with stainless steel speaker grilles that elevate the premium atmosphere.
At the top of the lineup sits the luxurious Sierra Denali Ultimate. This flagship model comes standard with the new 6.6 liter V8 engine and pushes technology to another level by offering more than 60 inches of combined digital displays. Drivers receive a 12.2 inch digital instrument cluster, a massive 16.3 inch infotainment display, an 11.5 inch passenger screen, a 15 inch head up display, and an 8.5 inch digital rearview mirror.
Luxury continues throughout the cabin with forged wood trim, a 16 speaker Bose Premium Series sound system, and a 3 year subscription to Super Cruise hands free driving technology. These premium touches help position the Denali Ultimate as one of the most advanced luxury pickup trucks available.
GMC has not announced official pricing yet, but those details are expected before the truck reaches dealerships later this year. Considering the current 2026 Sierra starts at $41,095 and higher trims already reach the mid $80,000 range, buyers should expect the redesigned 2027 Sierra to carry slightly higher prices. With bold styling, smarter technology, and new V8 power, GMC appears ready to give truck buyers plenty of reasons to take a closer look.
