2027 Dodge Charger SIXPACK Has 550 HP and RWD Mode

The 2027 Dodge Charger SIXPACK brings gasoline power back to the center of the Charger story, but it does so with a very different formula than the traditional Dodge muscle cars many drivers remember. Instead of relying on a large naturally aspirated V8 engine, the new Charger uses a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged Hurricane straight-6, combining modern turbocharged performance with the aggressive personality expected from a Dodge.

The headline model is the Charger SIXPACK Scat Pack, which uses the high-output version of the Hurricane engine producing 550 horsepower. Dodge engineered the engine to deliver strong response across a broad portion of the rev range. It produces 88% of its peak torque by just 2,500 revolutions per minute and maintains more than 90% between 3,000 and 6,000 revolutions per minute. That should make the Charger feel strong not only during hard launches, but also when accelerating out of corners or passing on the highway.

The Hurricane engine uses twin counter-rotating turbochargers designed to reduce turbo lag and improve airflow. It also features high-pressure 350-bar direct fuel injection, dual overhead camshafts with independent variable valve timing, and dedicated water-to-air charge cooling. Underneath all of that technology is a deep-skirt cast-aluminum engine block with forged-steel internal components designed to handle the additional pressure and performance demands of the high-output engine.

One of the biggest changes is how the Charger puts that power onto the road. All-wheel drive is standard, giving the SIXPACK additional traction when launching or driving in difficult conditions. However, Dodge did not forget drivers who want the traditional feel of a rear-wheel-drive muscle car. At the push of a button, the system can send 100% of the engine’s torque to the rear wheels.

That gives the new Charger an interesting split personality. It can use all 4 wheels when maximum traction is needed and then switch to rear-wheel drive when the driver wants a more traditional muscle car experience.

The Charger SIXPACK Scat Pack also receives Line Lock. The system holds the front brakes while disconnecting the all-wheel-drive transfer case and removing torque from the front axle. The rear tires can then spin freely, allowing the driver to warm and clean the tires before a launch. Once it is time to accelerate, the Charger can return to the traction advantage of all-wheel drive.

Dodge has also paid attention to something that matters greatly in a gasoline-powered muscle car: sound. The SIXPACK receives a performance-tuned active exhaust with electronically controlled dual-mode valves. Different Drive Modes change the character of the exhaust, allowing the car to become quieter when appropriate or more aggressive during performance driving.

Drivers can choose between Auto, Eco, Wet and Snow, Sport, and Custom Drive Modes. Sport Mode sharpens transmission shifts, steering feedback, and engine response while opening the active exhaust valves. Custom Mode gives the driver more control over propulsion characteristics, paddle-shifter behavior, traction settings, and steering weight.

The chassis has also moved far beyond the traditional muscle car formula. A multi-link front suspension works with a fully independent integral link rear suspension. Available adaptive damping can adjust the car’s behavior from comfortable everyday driving to a much more focused performance setting. SIXPACK Scat Pack models also receive powerful 6-piston front Brembo brake calipers.

Inside, the Charger combines its performance focus with a much more modern digital environment. A 16-inch instrument cluster works alongside the central touchscreen, while available technology gives drivers quick access to performance information and vehicle settings. The cabin also offers seating for 5 people.

Practicality may be one of the biggest surprises. The Charger uses a hidden hatch design that keeps the appearance of a performance coupe while providing access to a large cargo area. With the rear area configured for maximum storage, Dodge says the Charger offers up to 1,064 liters of cargo capacity.

The 2027 Dodge Charger SIXPACK is clearly a different type of American muscle car. The V8 may no longer define the gasoline Charger, but Dodge has tried to preserve the ingredients that made the name famous: strong power, rear-wheel-drive capability, aggressive sound, tire-smoking performance features, and a design that refuses to blend into traffic.

For drivers who still want a gasoline-powered Charger, the SIXPACK may be the most important version of this new generation. It combines 550 horsepower, twin turbochargers, all-wheel-drive traction, selectable rear-wheel drive, serious brakes, and modern chassis technology into a Charger that is designed to work during everyday driving while still being ready to have some fun when the road opens up.
