2027 Chevy Silverado Walkaround – 2 New V8 Engines

2027 Chevy Silverado Walkaround – 2 New V8 Engines

The 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is getting a major redesign, and Chevrolet appears to have focused on much more than simply giving its full size pickup truck a new face. The latest Silverado brings significant changes to the interior, technology, safety equipment, storage, comfort, and most importantly, what sits under the hood.

On the outside, Chevrolet has given the Silverado a stronger and more modern appearance while keeping the familiar proportions that have defined the truck. New light emitting diode headlights and taillights help separate the 2027 model from the previous generation. The more rugged Trail Boss and ZR2 models continue to stand out, especially with their aggressive hood details, larger off road tires, and tougher overall stance.

The bigger transformation becomes obvious when stepping inside.

Every 2027 Silverado will come standard with a massive 16.5 inch central touchscreen along with a 12 inch digital display positioned in front of the driver. That includes the entry level Work Truck, meaning buyers will not necessarily have to move into an expensive trim level to get the Silverado’s newest technology.

Higher trims such as the ZR2 and High Country add another interesting feature: an available 11.5 inch passenger display. Privacy technology prevents the driver from easily seeing what is playing on the passenger screen, allowing the passenger to watch entertainment while the truck is moving. Bluetooth headphones or Apple AirPods can also be connected so the passenger can listen independently.

Chevrolet has also introduced a completely new General Motors infotainment system for the Silverado and Sierra. The Android based interface is designed to make commonly used functions easier to reach without forcing the driver through multiple menus. Owners can customize the home screen with navigation, audio, towing information, or vehicle data.

The system also provides access to applications through the Google Play Store, including services such as Spotify and Apple Music. Chevrolet plans to include 8 years of data for features including maps, voice assistance, and audio streaming. The voice assistant can also be upgraded to Google’s Gemini technology.

Super Cruise is becoming more widely available as well. Chevrolet’s hands free highway driving system will now be offered on the Trail Boss. It will be standard on the High Country and ZR2, with 3 years of Super Cruise service included.

Safety technology receives attention too. The Silverado gains the ability to automatically stop at intersections, rear automatic braking, and technology capable of detecting cyclists approaching from the sides. Those features can be particularly useful in a vehicle with the size and dimensions of a full size pickup.

Charging devices should be easier inside the new Silverado. There are multiple Universal Serial Bus Type C connections throughout the cabin, but one of the more interesting additions is a pair of wireless MagSafe charging locations. Compatible phones can magnetically attach to the charging surface instead of sliding around while the truck is moving.

Technology was already one of the stronger areas of the previous Silverado, so Chevrolet also spent considerable effort improving cabin quality. Materials and touch points have been upgraded, while physical controls remain available for important functions such as climate control, 4 wheel drive, and towing settings.

Storage has improved substantially. The redesigned center console can provide a large flat work surface that could be used for a laptop, paperwork, or even a quick meal. Beneath it is a large storage compartment, while part of the console can move forward and backward to provide additional flexibility.

Passenger space remains generous because the overall dimensions and basic platform have not dramatically changed. The rear seating area continues to offer impressive room, but Chevrolet has worked on making those seats more comfortable. The lower cushions are softer and the seatback angle has been improved.

For the first time, Silverado buyers will also be able to order a panoramic moonroof, helping make the already spacious cabin feel even more open.

The biggest news, however, may be under the hood.

Chevrolet is introducing 2 new V8 engines for the 2027 Silverado 1500. The new 5.7 liter V8 becomes the base 8 cylinder engine and produces 402 horsepower along with 428 pound feet of torque.

Above it sits a new 6.6 liter V8 producing an impressive 481 horsepower and 501 pound feet of torque. According to the information presented for the truck, this makes it the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 offered among full size pickups.

Chevrolet is not using a supercharger to reach those numbers. That means the Silverado is taking a different approach from extreme performance trucks that rely on forced induction. The larger 6.6 liter engine will be reserved for the ZR2 and High Country models.

Trail Boss buyers will have access to the smaller 5.7 liter V8 or the familiar 3.0 liter turbo diesel engine. Keeping the diesel is significant because the Silverado and its General Motors Sierra sibling remain unusual in the full size pickup segment by continuing to offer a diesel option.

The changes suggest Chevrolet has concentrated on areas where the previous Silverado had room for improvement. The cabin looks more modern, storage is more useful, rear passengers should be more comfortable, and buyers get substantially more screen space and technology.

At the same time, Chevrolet has not abandoned some of the things truck owners appreciate. Important controls still have physical buttons and knobs, the diesel remains available, and naturally aspirated V8 power continues to play a major role in the lineup.

Pricing remains one of the unanswered questions. Chevrolet has not yet announced exactly what the redesigned Silverado will cost. That could become an important part of the story considering how competitive the full size truck market has become.

The redesigned 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is expected to begin reaching dealerships by the end of the year. Driving impressions will ultimately determine how much the truck has improved on the road, but based on the changes revealed so far, Chevrolet has given Silverado buyers considerably more than a simple styling update.
