2027 BMW X5 Revealed: 5 Powertrains, New Interior and Big Changes

The BMW X5 has been one of the brand’s most recognizable sport utility vehicles for more than 25 years, but the upcoming 2027 model marks one of the biggest changes in its history. Rather than simply refining the previous generation, BMW has taken a completely different direction with new styling, fresh technology, an updated cabin, and the widest range of powertrains ever offered in an X5. It is clear that the company wants this model to bridge the gap between traditional gasoline vehicles and its growing electric future.

The first thing people will notice is the redesigned front end. BMW has introduced a new lighting signature that immediately sets the X5 apart from previous generations. It features BMW’s latest 141.0 kilowatt hour battery pack, sending power to all 4 wheels through an advanced dual motor system. Total output reaches 578 horsepower and 593 pound feet of torque. BMW estimates driving range at up to 525 miles under the Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure, with official Environmental Protection Agency ratings expected closer to launch.

The battery itself represents an important step forward for BMW. It uses larger next generation cylindrical battery cells that increase energy density while reducing the overall size and weight of the battery pack. According to BMW, these improvements provide approximately 30 percent greater usable energy compared with previous battery technology, helping extend range while improving efficiency.

Although official pricing has not yet been announced, buyers should expect the new generation to carry a higher starting price than today’s model because of its expanded technology and broader range of electrified powertrains.
