2027 BMW X5 M Spy Photos Reveal Major Changes with Render

BMW has only just introduced the all new fifth generation X5, but attention is already shifting toward the performance flagship that enthusiasts have been waiting for. New prototype sightings are giving us an early look at what the next BMW X5 M could bring, and it appears the high performance sport utility vehicle will receive much more than a simple power upgrade.

Although the test vehicles remain heavily camouflaged, several key details are already visible. The most obvious change is the redesigned kidney grille, which looks much closer to the current X5 M and X6 M than the standard X5. The headlights also appear slimmer, giving the front end a sharper and more aggressive appearance while keeping BMW’s distinctive X shaped daytime running light signature.

The front bumper is still hidden beneath camouflage, but it is expected to borrow styling cues from BMW’s latest performance concept that previews future M models. Around the back, camouflage hides most of the final design, although the gasoline powered X5 M is expected to retain its signature quad exhaust outlets. BMW is also expected to offer a high performance electric version, expanding the M lineup into the electric era.

Performance should remain one of the biggest highlights. BMW has confirmed that its twin turbocharged V8 engine is here to stay, and the upcoming X5 M60 is expected to produce more than 600 horsepower without adding a hybrid system. That leaves plenty of room for the flagship X5 M to deliver even more power than the current model, which already produces 625 horsepower and 750 Newton meters of torque.

While BMW has not confirmed final specifications, everything points toward the next X5 M becoming one of the most powerful and capable luxury performance sport utility vehicles the brand has ever built. If development continues as expected, the official reveal should arrive sometime around 2027, giving enthusiasts another reason to look forward to BMW’s next generation of M performance vehicles.
