2027 BMW M350 xDrive – Is This the New M340i?
The 2027 BMW M350 xDrive is shaping up to be one of the most interesting versions of the next generation BMW 3 Series. Sitting below the full BMW M3, the M350 is expected to replace the familiar M340i xDrive while bringing considerably more performance and an entirely new design.
BMW has confirmed a 3.0 liter turbocharged inline 6 cylinder engine paired with 48 volt mild hybrid technology. For the United States, maximum output is rated at 437 horsepower and 428 pound feet of torque. Power is delivered through an 8 speed Steptronic automatic transmission and BMW xDrive all wheel drive. BMW lists acceleration from 0 to 62 miles per hour in approximately 4.1 seconds, with a top speed of 155 miles per hour.
The design remains partially hidden on BMW’s development prototypes, so these DPCcars renders offer a look at how the production M350 could appear once the camouflage comes off. The proportions remain unmistakably BMW 3 Series, but the interpretation introduces a cleaner and more modern appearance inspired by BMW’s latest design direction.
At the front, the render features slim headlights, compact horizontal kidney grilles and a more aggressive lower bumper. The body has a low stance with flush door handles and a smooth roofline. For this interpretation, the car is finished in a slightly lighter version of Avus Blue Metallic, giving the body lines and reflections more visibility.
One detail we deliberately carried over from BMW’s actual M350 prototype is the wheel design. The intricate dark multi spoke wheels closely follow those fitted to the development vehicle, complete with small BMW center caps and red brake calipers.
The rear also incorporates one of the prototype’s most important performance cues: 4 round exhaust outlets, with 2 positioned on each side of the bumper. A subtle M350 badge sits on the right side of the trunk, while slim horizontal taillights help emphasize the width of the sedan.
BMW is also developing some interesting driving technology for the new model. One feature called Drift Moment is designed to allow engine power to be sent entirely to the rear wheels, giving the M350 a very different personality when the driver wants it.
With 437 horsepower, an inline 6 cylinder engine, all wheel drive and significantly updated chassis technology, the M350 could become an appealing middle ground between the regular 3 Series and the M3. The big question is whether the production car will look anything like this once BMW finally removes the camouflage.
