2027 BMW M350, i3 50 & 320 Interiors Revealed
BMW is taking a very different approach with the interiors of its new 2027 3 Series family. Instead of creating completely separate cabins for the gasoline powered 320, performance focused M350 xDrive, and fully electric i3 50 xDrive, BMW has designed them around the same next generation cockpit. The result is a cabin that immediately looks futuristic, regardless of which powertrain is underneath the car.
One of the biggest changes is the arrival of BMW Panoramic iDrive. The familiar instrument cluster directly in front of the driver has essentially disappeared. In its place, BMW Panoramic Vision displays important driving information across the lower section of the windshield, stretching from one side of the dashboard to the other. Drivers can keep important information closer to their natural field of vision without depending on a traditional gauge cluster.
Sitting in the center of the dashboard is a large 17.9 inch Central Display angled slightly toward the driver. The system operates with BMW Operating System X and works together with Panoramic Vision and the available 3D Head Up Display. BMW has also removed the traditional rotary iDrive controller, giving the center console a much cleaner appearance.
The 2027 BMW 320 provides the foundation for this new interior design. Its cabin has a cleaner and more understated appearance, but importantly, BMW has not reserved its newest technology for the more expensive models. The 320 still receives the same basic Panoramic iDrive concept and large central touchscreen found in the higher performance versions.
Move into the 2027 BMW M350 xDrive and the basic architecture remains familiar, but the personality changes. The M350 brings a more performance focused atmosphere with an M steering wheel, sportier seats, darker interior treatments, M graphics, and additional M details throughout the cabin. The idea is not to redesign the dashboard but to make the same cockpit feel more appropriate for a 437 horsepower performance sedan.
The fully electric BMW i3 50 xDrive takes the same interior philosophy in another direction. BMW offers several distinctive interior colors and materials, allowing the electric model to look more modern and unconventional. The electric platform also creates packaging advantages. Without the same conventional drivetrain layout underneath the passenger compartment, BMW can provide a more open feeling around the center console and rear passenger area.
That could make the difference between the i3 50 and gasoline powered 3 Series more noticeable once passengers actually climb inside. From the driver’s seat, however, the family resemblance is unmistakable.
A panoramic glass roof adds even more light to the cabin, while ambient lighting integrated into the dashboard helps create a more upscale atmosphere at night. BMW has clearly moved away from the traditional button heavy 3 Series cockpit toward something much cleaner and more digital.
The most interesting part may be how difficult it could become to identify the powertrain simply by looking through the windshield. A 320, M350, and i3 50 can all share the same basic dashboard design and technology. The differences now come down to materials, colors, seats, steering wheels, graphics, and packaging rather than completely different interior designs.
For longtime 3 Series fans, this represents one of the biggest cabin transformations in the model’s history. BMW is bringing its gasoline and electric sedans together under one interior design language while still giving the 320, M350, and i3 50 their own personalities.
