2027 Audi RS Q5 Rendered | 639 Horsepower Hybrid Beast

Audi is getting ready to introduce its most powerful Q5 ever, and the latest prototype sightings suggest the wait may not be much longer. While the standard Q5 already brings a fresh design and updated technology, the upcoming RS Q5 is shaping up to become a completely different machine. With aggressive styling, a plug in hybrid performance system, and a dramatic increase in power, this could be one of the most exciting performance sport utility vehicles Audi has built.

Recent development vehicles spotted during testing reveal that Audi engineers are putting the finishing touches on the new model. Even though the prototypes remain partially disguised, several signature RS design elements are already impossible to miss.

The most obvious change is found at the front. The new RS Q5 appears to feature an enormous single frame grille that stretches much lower into the bumper than the standard Q5. Massive vertical air intakes dominate each corner, giving the crossover a far more aggressive appearance. Large oval exhaust outlets remain one of the defining features of every modern Audi RS model, and the upcoming RS Q5 proudly continues that tradition. Unlike the latest RS5, where the exhaust outlets are positioned closer together, the RS Q5 appears to use a more traditional layout with the outlets placed farther apart across the rear bumper.

Underneath the redesigned bodywork sits Audi’s Premium Platform Combustion architecture, the same platform used by the latest Audi A5 family. This new foundation allows Audi to combine high performance with improved efficiency while supporting advanced plug in hybrid technology.

That powertrain could become the biggest story of the new RS Q5. Industry expectations point toward the same electrified system found in the latest RS5. It combines a 2.9 liter twin turbocharged V6 engine with an electric motor integrated into an 8 speed automatic transmission.

Together, the system is expected to produce an impressive 639 horsepower and 825 newton meters of torque. That represents a huge jump over the current SQ5, which delivers 367 horsepower from its 3.0 liter turbocharged V6 engine. If those figures become official, the new RS Q5 should offer breathtaking acceleration while also benefiting from the instant torque delivery that electric assistance provides.

Beyond straight line performance, Audi is expected to upgrade the suspension, steering, braking system, and quattro all wheel drive calibration to match the added power. The goal will likely be to deliver sharper handling without sacrificing the everyday comfort that has helped make the Q5 one of Audi’s most successful models.

Although Audi has not confirmed an official reveal date, the advanced development stage shown by these prototypes suggests the debut may be only a few months away. Once it arrives, the RS Q5 is expected to compete directly with high performance luxury sport utility vehicles from BMW, Mercedes AMG, and Porsche.
