Permanent all wheel drive works together with several electronic driving modes, including Rock, Mud, Sand, Dirt, and Mogul settings. Hill Descent Control also assists drivers when navigating steep downhill sections by automatically managing vehicle speed.

One of the biggest advantages of an electric pickup is instant torque. Unlike a diesel engine that must build power as engine speed increases, the HiLux BEV delivers maximum response the moment the accelerator is pressed. Toyota also revised the suspension specifically for the electric model. The front uses an independent MacPherson strut suspension, while the rear adopts a De Dion axle arrangement.
