2018 Ferrari Portofino Launched In China – Video

Ferrari China is delighted to announce the China launch of Ferrari Portofino today, continuing its relentless pursuit of building on its success by introducing this new car that has been highly anticipated ever since its global debut in Frankfurt in September 2017. Thanks to its perfect combination of sportiness, elegance and on-board comfort, the new Ferrari Portofino V8 GT is set to dominate its segment.

As it concludes an eventful year that has already featured a full programme spanning 60 nations in celebration of its 70th anniversary, Ferrari is honoured to bring this new GT car to China. The premiere of the Ferrari Portofino in China is the latest tribute to the 70 glorious years of Ferrari, the most illustrious automotive marque in the world.

Ferrari has chosen a particularly evocative name for this exceptionally versatile GT car, referencing one of Italy’s most beautiful towns. Portofino is renowned as a charming port and tourist town and, over the years, has become internationally synonymous with elegance, sportiness and understated luxury. The Ferrari Portofino fully captures these intangible characteristics of the charming town in opening up to a new breed that embodies Italian pinnacle of excellence.

To echo the name of Portofino, the launch ceremony was staged in Nansha, a place centrally located within the Pearl River Delta region and widely known as Southern China’s finest nautical leisure and recreation destination that associates the attractive characteristics of Portofino. With its neon lights across an array of buildings surrounding the harbour, the place truly reflects the essence of the picturesque resort on the Italian Riviera known for its colourfully painted buildings that line the shore. By holding the launch event in Nansha Marina, Ferrari China strived to deliver a unique and memorable experience to all guests and Ferrari enthusiasts.

Powered by the Ferrari V8 turbo, a member of the engine family that won the overall International Engine of the Year Award in both 2016 and 2017, the new car is capable of punching out 600 cv, or 40 cv more than the California T it replaces. It boasts best of class power and can sprint from 0-100 km/h in just 3.5 seconds thanks to the adoption of new components and the specific calibration of the engine management software. The characteristic Ferrari V8 soundtrack has also been further enhanced and can be fully appreciated, particularly in top-down driving. These improvements, combined with its Variable Boost Management which adjusts torque delivery to suit the gear selected, enable the Ferrari Portofino to offer even higher levels of acceleration in all gears and lower fuel consumption compared to the outgoing model.

On top of that, the Ferrari Portofino has also been crowned for a series of “firsts” as its vehicle dynamic characteristics have been completely revised and benefit from the introduction of new technological solutions. For the first time on this type of Ferrari model, the third- generation electronic rear differential (E-Diff3) has been adopted and integrated with the F1-Trac, improving both mechanical grip and the control of the car on the limit. The Ferrari Portofino is also the first GT in the range to be fitted with EPS (Electric Power Steering). Thanks to integration with the E-Diff3, this allowed the engineers to reduce the steering ratio by 7% for even more responsive steering without a trade-off in stability. The magnetorheological damping system (SCM-E) has been upgraded with dual-coil technology helping to reduce roll while simultaneously improving absorption of road surface unevenness. The result is an even more dynamic, responsive car that also delivers superior ride comfort.

The Ferrari Portofino is also an aggressively-styled car with a two-box fastback configuration – unprecedented in a coupé-convertible with a retractable hard top – this adds extra sleekness to its silhouette, giving it a sportier character without impinging on its elegance and dynamism.

Further building on its supreme capabilities, there is also a particular focus on on-board comfort. This is guaranteed via a slew of new features, not least an infotainment system with a 10.25” touchscreen display; a new air-conditioning system that improves occupant comfort both with the top up or down; a new steering wheel; 18-way electrically adjustable seats with a new backrest design that boosts legroom for rear seat passengers; and the passenger display. All occupants will particularly appreciate the new wind deflector which can cut air flow inside the cabin by 30% and also reduces aerodynamic noise.

A brilliant marriage of design, technological content and performance, the Ferrari Portofino is the perfect car for any occasion delivering exhilarating driving experiences only possible from a Maranello creation with a starting price from RMB 2,908,000 in Mainland China.

Reflecting on the successful launch of the Ferrari Portofino in China, Mr. Matteo Torre, President & CEO of Ferrari Greater China, commented, “The Ferrari Portofino strikes a perfect balance between performance and versatility. It is designed for daily driving and effortlessly converts from an authentic ‘berlinetta’ coupé into a drop-top in just 14 seconds, capable of delivering a unique Ferrari soundtrack and superb driving pleasure even in day-to-day situations. Replacing California T, the new member of the Cavallino Rampante family is set to become a new dream car for Ferrari owners and fans.”
