Based on the Double Cab Tekna version of the Nissan Navara, the all-new Navara EnGuard Concept has arrived at the 2016 IAA Commercial Vehicle Show in Hanover, Germany.

Fitted with numerous design elements and performance upgrades, the pickup truck is described as “durable and touch”, and is said to have been designed “to operate as a life-saving rescue platform in some of the world’s most harsh and extreme environments.”

Compared to the standard Navara, the study features a 50 mm increase in ride height, bespoke overfenders with moulded side steps between them, emergency blue strobe lights, redesigned fog lamps and taillights, and fluorescent green color appliqu├ęs, on the side steps and wheels. This shade is the most visible one in daylight and easily identifiable by people affected by color-blindness.

The Nissan Navara EnGuard Concept also has two pull-out fiberglass trays in the load bed, two-way radios, ropes and an axe in the shallow upper tray, and oxygen tank, resuscitation kit, life jackets, and buoyancy aids in the lower tray.

Moreover, rescue is enhanced by a DJI Phantom 4 drone, with an operating ceiling of 6,000 meters (19,685 feet), weighing 1,4 kg (3 lbs) and having the ability to fly at speeds up to 20 meters per second, for close to 30 minutes. The drone sends images back to the car, which appear on a pop-up high-def screen, hidden in the load bed wall.

Last but not least, the automaker has equipped the concept with a prototype portable battery pack, designed and developed in-house, using seven EV battery modules inside a weather-proof machined aluminum housing, each being a 2kW unit. When docked in place, these remain in constant ‘charge’ mode and harvest power generated by the 190 PS (187 HP) twin-turbo 2.3-liter diesel engine. The batteries can be used with as an alternative to a petrol generator.
