In 1987 I had an idea about making a TV cabinet for my bedroom, it took me until 1998 to decide to make it, a small media storm ensued, due to this interest I set about making a couple more pieces and this clip was one of a few TV appearances that they made. The furniture has continued to receive interest since then appearing in many newspapers magazines and books, the latest book to my knowledge 100 years of motoring, twentieth century in pictures, First printed 2009. At this years annual "Boxing Day Bash", there were no less than four Metros! A Metro 6R4 replica with Mitsubishi 2.0 litre turbo charged engine, a modified Rover 111, a single point Rover Metro 1.4 GTi and my very own Rover Metro 1.4 GTi mpi.Happy days!!

Second start of the refreshed engine. In the video it wasn't set up well (as you may hear). 1275cc, Innocenti Cooper 1300 big valve head, 20:1 comp ratio, MG cam, RC40 & LCB exhaust, K&N, MG airbox and HIF6 carb. Rebuild gearbox with 3,21:1 diff. It's runing fine now and pulls very hard. Impressive for such a low tuned engine... Surprising! Well chuffed with it!

Just what the title says. Yes, some of the BL cars were crap, but so is this. I made this since I really like British cars. Damn you Phoenix Four, Labour government, Thatcher and Walter Reitzle. Goodwood Festival of Speed FOS 2011, Austin-Rover MG Metro 6R4 at the start, quick of the line. De MG Metro 6R4 is een rallyauto, die door Austin-Rover werd ingezet tijdens het Groep B-segment in het Wereldkampioenschap Rally in de seizoenen 1985-1986. De auto was geen doorslaand succes, het behaalde slechts één podium resultaat. Created for the short lived Group B race category, the 4WD mid engined MG 6R4 (6-cylinder, rally car, four-wheel-drive) Metro of 1984 was a world away from the best selling supermini to which it bore only a superficial cosmetic resemblance. The competition car effectively only shared the name of the production Metro as it featured a mid-mounted engine with four wheel drive transmission enclosed within a seam-welded tubular chassis. The development of this vehicle had been entrusted to Williams Grand Prix Engineering. Austin Rover withdrew from the rallying scene at the end of the season, but in 1987 all the parts and engines were sold to Tom Walkinshaw Racing, whereupon the V6 engine reappeared under the bonnet of the Jaguar XJ220, this time with turbochargers added.

In 1987 I had an idea about making a TV cabinet for my bedroom, it took me until 1998 to decide to make it, a small media storm ensued, due to this interest I set about making a couple more pieces and this clip was one of a few TV appearances that they made. The furniture has continued to receive interest since then appearing in many newspapers magazines and books, the latest book to my knowledge 100 years of motoring, twentieth century in pictures, First printed 2009. Best of group B. FIA (International Automobile Federation) introduced Group B in 1982 as the most exotic category in motor rallying. The regulations for Group B required the manfacturers to build only 200 road cars, very much lower than Group A's 5000 cars. Besides, more modifications were allowed for the race version. Therefore car makers could put as much state-of-the-art technology as possible into their racing cars. This created a golden era in motor rallying history - Audi, Lancia, Peugeot, Ford, Citroen and Austin Rover created many super rally cars to compete in World Rally Championship, all with at least 400 horsepower, lightweight Kevlar body and most of them were mid-engined and 4-wheel drive also. Recalling that period, motor rally enthusiasts always regard that as the best moment of their life. WRC had never been as exciting as that period. What a pity the Group B ended in misery. In 1986 season, series of accidents involving spectators as well as led to the death of Lancia's top driver Henri Toivonen and navigator Sergio Cresto happened. Group B was accused of being too powerful and too light to be controllable. As a result, FIA axed it after that season.
