Volvo is positioning the production XC60 concept as a step up for C30 owners who find a need to carry more cargo, perhaps in the form of a car seat & diaper bag. Volvo promises a vehicle that is “equally sporting & exciting, but with more cargo capacity.” Volvo isn’t talking powertrains yet, but the 3.2-liter inline six found in the S80 & platform-mate Land Rover LR2 seems likely. Details are scarce at this point, but expect the exterior of the production vehicle to look very similar to the concept when it hits the streets in 2009. Also look for the City Safe braking system to prevent collisions at speeds up to 18.6 mph. When an imminent collision is detected, the system will automatically apply the brakes to scrub off speed before impact.
