Mercedes
hinted at
the
possibility
of such a
model with
its Vision
Mercedes SLA
roadster
concept car
that was
unveiled at
the Detroit
Auto Show
back in
2000. Based
on the first
generation
A-class, the
Mercedes SLA
roadster
concept car
featured a
similar
design to
the flagship
SLR and was
powered by
the same
1.9L engine
from the
A190. The
Vision
Mercedes SLA
roadster
also
featured
extensive
use of
aluminum and
plastic in
its
construction
as well as
premium
accessories
such as the
carbon seats
and xenon
headlights.
