Porsche GT3 RSR

The Porsche GT3 RSR racing 997 was already the most powerful racing 997 but Porsche thought even more performance could be squeezed out of the GT3 and thus updated it for the 2009 model year. Competing in the GT2 class, the previous model managed to win the Nurburgring 24 hour race and also scored a number of wins during last year’s Le Mans series. For the latest model designers have given the car a totally new front end, however the majority of innovations are hidden under the weight-optimized body. The Porsche 3.8L boxer engine of the Porsche GT3 RSR remains unchanged apart from slight improvements to details. It delivers 465hp at 8,000 rpm and delivers a maximum torque of 430Nm at 7,250 revs. The Porsche GT3 RSR's six-speed sequential gearbox has also been given an upgrade, now considerably lighter and with less internal friction than its predecessor.

Aside from the easily recognizable additional spoilers on the front apron, new air ducting with newly-designed side air outlets to generate more downforce and reduce drag have been added to the car. The rear end including the rear wing was taken over from the predecessor. Extensive changes to the suspension set-up increase mechanical grip considerably and the range of possible suspension set-ups was broadened. Aside from the Porsche GT3 Cup and the Porsche GT3 Cup S, the Porsche GT3 RSR is the third race car based on the Porsche 911 offered by Porsche Motorsport. Only 35 models will be produced and delivered to customer teams around the world.
