Widebody 1994 Mercedes Benz CE320 with AMG C36 engine swap

Widebody 1994 Mercedes Benz CE320 with AMG C36 engine swap

This 1994 Mercedes Benz CE320 has been converted into an AMG E36 tribute with 500E-sourced fender and quarter flares, bumpers and more. Power comes from a 3.6 M104 donated by a 1995 AMG C36, and grunt is passed rearwards through a 5-speed manual and limited slip diff-equipped rear end. These pillarless W124 coupes are seriously good looking and well-built cars, and this one is very similar to a build we’ve been dreaming about for years now.

Other exterior mods include smooth Euro spec headlights and retrofitted early style hood and grille. A rare Hella “Heckblende” tail panel ties the rear light clusters together, and though we’d prefer the staggered width, seventeen inch, three-piece AMG wheels un-chromed, we won’t argue they don’t otherwise suit the car perfectly.

The interior looks largely standard apart from a killer AMG steering wheel, and though leather is completely serviceable as-is, we’d consider eventually re-doing the seats with a part leather, part tartan scheme like seen in some Euro market Cosworth 190E’s. With all four windows rolled down and no B-pillars between, the driving experience becomes about as close as one can get to a convertible in a hardtop.

These AMG-tuned straight sixes are torquey, creamy smooth motors and make a great sound to boot. This one should be good for nearly 270 HP from the factory, which in combo with a 5-speed and LSD should make for quick, fun progress. The seller says it has 64k miles, which isn’t all that much provided the timing chain has been tended to. Note the auto-extending single-arm wiper blade–one of many over-engineered features these 124 chassis cars came stuffed with.

Other noted upgrades include Bilstein yellow sport shocks and Vogtland springs. Hopefully this one goes fast, as the temptation is almost too much.
