New Smart #2
Smart is going back to its roots with a brand-new micro electric vehicle, and this time it is aiming directly at busy city drivers. The upcoming Smart #2 has now appeared in official regulatory filings in China, giving everyone a closer look at what Geely and Mercedes-Benz have been developing together. After making an appearance at the Beijing Auto Show, the tiny electric car is quickly becoming one of the brand’s most talked-about upcoming models.
Designed as a 2-seat commuter, the Smart #2 focuses on making urban driving simple and efficient. Depending on the version, it measures either 2,751 millimeters or 2,764 millimeters long while keeping a compact 1,875-millimeter wheelbase. Despite its small footprint, the design gives the little hatchback a modern and confident appearance that stands out from traditional city cars.
Power comes from a 60-kilowatt electric motor that produces 80 horsepower, sending enough performance to make everyday commuting enjoyable. The vehicle is paired with a lithium iron phosphate battery supplied by CATL and assembled by Geely, while previous reports indicate a 35.7-kilowatt-hour battery pack capable of delivering up to 300 kilometers of Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicles Test Procedure driving range. The top speed reaches 140 kilometers per hour, making it more than capable of handling city streets and surrounding highways.
Smart is also giving buyers plenty of ways to personalize the new model. Different wheel designs, roof colors, lighting options, exterior trim pieces, and multiple tire combinations will all be available. Depending on the selected version, customers can also choose whether to include radar and camera equipment, creating configurations that suit different budgets and preferences.
The arrival of the Smart #2 could represent an important moment for the brand. While Smart has expanded into larger sport utility vehicles in recent years, many enthusiasts still associate the company with compact city transportation. This new model embraces that original identity while adding modern electric technology, improved safety features, and a fresh design that could attract a new generation of urban drivers looking for an affordable and practical electric vehicle.
